Throw away account:

Software Engineer, 35.

Gross: R103,040
Nett: R68,879

No benefits so from pocket.

Bloody hell that's impressive. I'm 38, similar stack and I was super happy with the raise I got earlier in the year. It's not close to this however.

What are benefits?

I only know of entities paying CTC and you sort out the rest?
The raw CTC is easier to work with, I normally prefer it.

We have a disability/life cover as part of the group.

The nice thing is that they get good rates for doing it as a group, and the employees get a little safety net.

But it's still a line item on your IRP5, and you get taxed for it, so it reduces your net income below what a similar raw CTC would be.

Agreed - plain CTC is easier because then you can do direct comparisons on the salary component at least.

Although they should add in a line item that shows average hours worked per employee so you can work out the hourly rate and whether 80 hours a week is worth it

Just got a promotion, came with a 12 % increase, not a lot more money, but will help to plug some holes.
Out of cycle increase? I received a 13% not too long ago, but that's 'cos HR noticed that I am underpaid or something about fair remuneration or something.

Out of cycle yes, effective 1 Dec. Should still qualify for April increase though.

No one got bonuses or increases?

I despise the word increase unless it is a proper increase, I got a 5.5% cost of living adjustment. My bonus was surprisingly good, happy with it based on all the challenges we face.

I have resigned so in theory I should not be getting a bonus. But we will see, apparently there are rumours that I might be getting one.

Check your employment contract - you should be getting at least an apportioned bonus depending on how much of the financial year you worked (if you still there when bonuses handed out)

I think that is probably why I am getting one - I think it is contractually owed to me.

I don't think it will be great though, I don't think I will be getting 100% of my rating. Lately, my performance has been bad and people have noticed. Stress and boredom I think. Oh well, luckily I am making the right change.

And to be honest, a R100 bonus would be R100 more than I was expecting.
