How much money do you earn? And how do you spend it?

My point is that my grocery/housekeeping budget is probably 4x yours :/

LOL! Mistakes were made...I've been told that our food budget is high for only two people, I assumed you were saying the same.

Life is too short to eat bad food...

Anyway...kinda surprised how many people are willing to post exact earnings numbers.

For me it was simple...
I have no friends on here and no personal information on my profile.

I am just a nickname who lives in Cape Town :p

Here if someone looked hard enough, they would be able to find out more but even then, so what?
The worst they could do is let the world know how much I earn.

I think living at home is the best thing anyone can do till they can comfortably afford a place of their own.

I got SO much flak from my ex for this. Apparently it makes you look like a manchild despite saving a buttload, having my car paid off 1 year before it was needed and helping out the parents financially.

I was saving up to buy my own house when I was offered the Norway position.

But yeah I was banking around R23k (Before any deductions, so realistically quite a bit less) every month working as a project manager at Eishkom while having a Pr. Tech Eng qualification. A far cry from the R650k which is the "average employee salary" as mentioned in the media.

Lol, I get quite a bit of flack about this from my current girlfriend. We could afford to move out together I don't want to at the moment. I am only 24 and have a long term strategy with regards to saving. Currently building up a nice capital base while still living the good life. My parents and I don't mind that I'm at home and they travel a lot so its a win win. Plus I want to go overseas next year so I'm not going to move out to move out again.

Tell that to women that expect you to own a car, house, boat and helicopter at 25 just because they moved out at 19 (yet are struggling with rent).

Furk I hate dating :(

Well...I'll do the percentage thing:

30% rent
23% tax
5-10% expenses (mostly food)
40ish - savings/travel/toys

Mostly anonymous so small chance someone can ask you for a loan :p
Not so sure my profile is anonymous any more...posted plenty of info that could be stitched together / chanced upon.

I have no friends on here and no personal information on my profile.
Ironically most of my friends know what I earn - there I have control over who I tell though...

It's all relative dude.

My first job fixing electronic equipment got me R200/week. Yeah. That didn't even cover petrol to work and back, but did it for the experience. My 2nd job at First Technologies as a network techie I worked for free just to get my CV populated. I also worked in a bar at nights til 3am to get extra cash.

Percentage wise I can attempt :

Monthly Saving 35%
Bank Fees and Funny Things 15%
ADSL 3%
Lunch 4%
Vodacom 6%
Parents 5%
Surplus 16%
Car 7%
Total 91%

Not sure where the other 9% goes :erm:

I just dont get it.

Work as a gov street sweeper and get R6.5k, work your ass off as a start out techie and get R3k. Then again, the street sweeper will still be a street sweeper 25yrs from now, so there's that.
