Hi,

I own a 146sqm home which falls in the City of Cape Town Municipality. I am wondering if other members can give me an idea as to how much I should be paying monthly for electricity on a prepaid basis? Bearing in mind that a total of 2 people reside in my house, we are "conscious" users - in other words we keep lights off in unused rooms, do not watch TV excessively, nor do we use heaters. I'd say our main use of electricity are lights, an electric fence, washing machine, fridge, microwave, charging cellphones, powering laptops. We have an oven and stove, however, those are gas powered.

Thanks!

Without electrical oven and stove I'd reckon around 15-20 units per day.

I have a similar household and we do 25-35 units a day with electrical stove and oven and some light gaming.

Forgot - pool is running 6-8 hours a day. That might make up the difference between satan, mike and my usage.

10 people, two geysers (one solar), pool, large koi pond, 5-6 fridges/freezers, 5-6 TVs and usual other stuff.
Gas oven/hob.
No heaters.
35-45Kwh per day.

Why are you running your pool so long in winter? You can winterize it. We have a smallish pool, but I only run the pump for 2 hours a day in winter.

We use about 18 - 22 units per day (averages at 20). Slightly larger house, 2 people, solar geyser (although east facing so it does nothing in winter), gas hob. We have a smallish pool, use the oven every couple of days, washer, dryer, dishwasher, etc.
When we moved in, usage was around 20 - 30 units (averaging close to 25). Brought this down by replacing all the globes with energy savers and switching the lights that are on all night to LEDs. Also reduced the pool pump time to 2 hours in winter. Most importantly it was to get the overall usage to just below 600 units as cost per kw goes up quite a bit after this point.

Geez, In winter, I only run my pump for 2h per week (and some weeks I don't bother). I have a pool cover.

In summer, it is only 2h per day. It is a small 3m x 4m splash pool.

This. Do not underestimate the value in LEDs.
We dropped our usage by 7Kw per day (lot of lights, and lots of spots). Bar area alone was 1.5kw

For sure... Especially if you are replacing halogen downlights @ ~50W each! Our new house has all LED downlights (4W each), with one or two CFLs. Total lighting is around 200W.

I use 850 units a month and costs me R850.00 to the municipality.
Would pre-paid be cheaper or what ?
