South African TV actors can earn a good living if they secure a spot on a top local TV series.

According to the South African Guild of Actors’ minimum rate card guidelines for 2016, senior actors on a local soap should take home at least R44,000 per month.

That R44K is take home pay, so not bad at all!!

Not to look down on anybody's "craft" here, but how much of that 12 hour day is used for work/acting? Half of it? What other perks are involved? Surely these guys do advertisements and Huisgenoot articles in between for more cash? It beats 8 hour shifts of digging trenches or laying bricks for damn sure.

Don't you remember about the generation actors wanting more money - don't forget they don't get any benefits like medical aid; pension etc

But they probably dont have to pay for their own car or living expenses, they get sponsors to sort that out for them
