How much you will be fined for not paying minimum wage – and other labour laws coming into effect in the new year

Easy way to resolve this, get rid of your domestic, realise it was a good thing while it lasted and we should just do what other countries do. Clean up after ourselves or hire a service, as having a domestic of gardener in this day and age with the new laws and the CCMA is actually madness.

Well, we just adde 2 domestics, one gardener and half an odd-jobs person to the unemployment stats.

So with you on the question of domestics and gardeners....should be placed under the bygone era column.

Very definitely edging towards the zero domestic help levels...

At the moment, the benefits still outweigh the negatives but its a close run thing at the moment.

Agreed.

Current laws is a death trap that will ensure financial ruin for the average Joe who still employs a domestic worker or gardener. While the ANC is currently busy changing these laws so much, you may wake up one morning finding yourself trapped and unable to let these people go.

I do not think unemployment, equality, hunger or poverty in SA is worth placing yourself and your family at risk. Rather wait this out in the hope we will one day either see new people or a new government who understand how the economy works and are able to reverse the damage already done.

Lol I get a gardener once every second week.
The money isn't as big of a problem for the domestic, but I have trust issues and they have a bad reputation. If I have to babysit a domestic helper I can just as well clean myself.

Gees, all these people complaining about paying R15/hour for domestic workers. That's what, R120 a day minimum (8 hours)? Will you be able to survive if you earned that?

Irelevant. If I studied for a R15/h job, then I will be happy with it and make ends meet.

Priorities. People have cars, houses, toys, take aways, kids. A shît load of debt. That extra R50 and all the hassle required to keep the domestic happy whilst she burns through your cleaning materials and eats half your food and then steals some sugar just to top it all of, isn't worth it anymore.

The broederbond doesn't believe in giving a domestic a living wage.

hate to be a negative person, but you do realize this is unlikely to happen anytime soon, the damage has been done , and unless something major happens in 2019, our fates are sealed.

Geez its R20.00 an hour, If you guys can't afford that you shouldn't be having people clean your houses or do your gardens.

Save yourself that money and do it yourself.

It is not so much the R20 per hour. Most people pay their workers way much more than that in any event.

It is the laws surrounding this, the continuous hikes and, as CR promised yesterday, many more hikes to come. One day you may find yourself in a dire financial position where you will be sunk legally.

Rather be safe than sorry.
