Geez its R20.00 an hour, If you guys can't afford that you shouldn't be having people clean your houses or do your gardens.

Save yourself that money and do it yourself.
For R35 an hour which is what I pay sweepsouth if I need them, my house gets cleaned top to bottom, I don't need to supervise, sort out UIF, if someone doesn't pitch they send someone else, they handle everything.
I've had two domestics in my life and they both left bitter tastes in my mouth, my mom had one for 25 years thinking she was a part of the family until she was taken to the CCMA for unfair dismissal and my mom followed the law to the degree, so luckily she won and the domestic got squat.

It is not so much the R20 per hour. Most people pay their workers way much more than that in any event.

It is the laws surrounding this, the continuous hikes and, as CR promised yesterday, many more hikes to come. One day you may find yourself in a dire financial position where you will be sunk legally.

Rather be safe than sorry.

Well then when it gets to expensive for you at the stage when "more increases" come in then worry about it. currently the fact that anyone in this economic climate pays their workers less than R20.00 an hour is ludicrous.

you try and live on R 3,600.00 a month and see why we need a minimum wage.

If people are paying their staff more than this then they won't have anything to worry about.

Exploitation of people by paying them piss poorly just because they need the money is no good reason to actually pay them that wage.

If my living expenses didn't include petrol, school, medical aid, bond, security, insurance, car installments, electricity, water, city services... You know the things they don't pay for, I could survive on R3600 a month.

All you doing is taking the risk of managing the staff out of the equation, but that employee will still get paid a minimum of R20.00 an hour which is a good thing.

we have a domestic that only comes in one morning a week just to wash and clean the floors and windows and vacuum the house. My wife still used to do the washing, ironing with me helping out with the other general cleaning of the house. The domestic only had one other job which she lost because the couple emigrated overseas and so she was struggling so she asked if she could do more time at our house. We didn't need more cleaning so to help her out my wife said then she can also do the ironing and we will pay her more. she comes in at 08h30 on a monday and leaves at 14h00 and we pay her R350.00 for that day. we understand she has a family to feed and so help her out where we can.

The broederbond doesn't believe in giving a domestic a living wage.
Bet you more of your ilk do not pay minimum wage than the socalled Brooederbond. Kak shield to hide behind.

One of our domestics used to moonlight by the neighbors. Neighbor being one of the Swazi pricesses. It lasted a full month. Domestic said never again. I think she liked me and my Broederbond people more than your bretheren. So GFY.

Trust me that risk is worth it out of my hands. I hope you're paying UIF, sorting out leave and so on. As she's employeed for more then 24 hours a month.

she works 5 and half hours a week = 22 hours a month, so no we don't pay UIF, but if we ever did increase it to over 24 hours we would be happy to pay the UIF contributions, as I am already a registered UIF contributor from previous employees.

Except for the months she works 5 times which then pushes her over. Don't think you won't get screwed over, rather cover your arse if you want to be all I pay more then the minimum.
