How much you would pay for petrol today if the government did not tax it

TLDR

Of the R16.02 you pay for a litre of 95 octane petrol inland, R3.37 of that is a fuel levy, for example.
If you removed only the government’s fuel levy and Road Accident Fund levy, petrol would already be R5.30 cheaper – making it R10.73 per lite.

We know that the R1.93 goes to renting chairs for the RAF, so now we need to know how government wastes the R3.37 they get.

Of course, this article discounts the percentage of fuel actually produced by Sasol.

That's just the hard levy/tax portion removed. If you plot the ZAR petrol price over a long enough timeline against the ZAR oil price for the same timeline you'll see that the petrol price has gone up significantly more than can be explained by levies, oil price or USDZAR exchange rates.

I've done that in the past, might repeat the exercise someday, but does anyone know the truth? Why are we paying disproportionately more now per liter than say 30 years ago even if you discount levies, USDZAR and oil price?!?

That would still be government regulated, if we free up the market we could get it cheaper.
However we need the feul levi to pay for the roads, buy that should be ring-fenced and only used for roads.

How insidious, all that tax worked into the price of every product you buy.

Poor Mr Derek Hanekom, must feel very alone. That list actually scares me a little....

Don't even try, the only people who might feel a little hard done there are coloureds, otherewise that list is very represantative.

So what you're saying, is American whites need to feel hard-done by by the NBA because the numbers don't fit the demographic.

This numbers vs. population thing remains the dumbest argument in history.
