So the entire case revolves around this?

He also found that the box came pre-installed with the following add-ons for XBMC: Fusion, Mashup, and Xunity Respository.

That's what I was wondering. How utterly stupid of them. XBMC/Kodi add-ons are so easy to install and no one was buying the MX III for pre-installed add-ons - why put your business at risk?

Erm, if that the basis of monochoice and farsefact's case, then they need to charge most pc and laptop users in SA.

Or it could be due to the very last part - movies: Need for Speed, Dracula Untold and Kinky Pleasures ...

The whole case rests on the word of some unknown MonoChoice employee who probably installed those addons and probably downloaded pirated movies to further his/her own career.

So did the box come with the content or with the ability to get the content? If it's the latter then the multichoice scum will be busy arresting allot of people all over the world.

The investigator told the court that the box was pre-loaded with the XBMC media player application, Netflix, Hulu+, Plex, Facebook, and Twitter.

He also found that the box came pre-installed with the following add-ons for XBMC: Fusion, Mashup, and Xunity Respository.
So is the problem the second paragraph? If it's the first one then Apple tv owners should be prosecuted as well. PlayStation owners. Numerous media players. Would have been interesting to see them conduct this prosecution in court.

But now they being paraded inn the streets as anti pirate champions. How desperate and pathetic are you multichoice? So hungry for a victory. Streaming is here to stay I reckon.

How many times is this same story going to be rehashed?

Just curious so I can mentally prepare.

There are at least 10 more iterations of this story to come...

But in saying that, MC and SAFACT have never had these charges actually tested in a court of law....

Not sure how we were "trapped" when our phone number and address have been online since day 1. We were just the easiest company to target, as most online shops don't offer collection in person, and others don't hold physical stock (drop shipping from China)

Did we intentionally sell a device that links to online pirated content? NO!

Just look at the other sites and groups that sell "fully loaded" boxes. They advertise them for R3000 - R5000 a box. We sold the MXIII for R1500, and made a measly R300 profit per box after shipping, import charges, etc. If a box broke, we would have to sell 3 to cover the costs

For those wondering if I personally installed the addons, just search aliexpress for "Netflix box" or "Android Media Player", and see what boxes are available to purchase.

How are all future sellers of these imported boxes going to be safe from Multichoice Piracy division if they come from China like that? And it's not only boxes imported from China, it's embedded in the majority of firmware releases found online.

You forgot to mention all smart tv's.
Go on mulitcrap, sue Samsung. That'll be entertaining.
If it makes you feel any better, their days are numbered and they know it. The world is changing and they are not keeping up. As soon as online sport streaming becomes more easily available for the mainstream, that'll be it for them.
