Car Make and Model: Audi A3 Sportback 2.0FSI - 2006 model
Age: 14
Mileage: 302 000km (I bought it in Feb 2009 on 76000km)
Plans: Keep it until it becomes too expensive to maintain... though it still drives like new! Only worth about R30k-R50k now, so anything major that happens might warrant a write-off, sadly.

Why you ditch your French babe that you used to rave about, was she a bit of a gold digger?
I still miss that car. But the Fong Kong special A/C pump I fitted after getting it destroyed the whole system 3 years later. My red rocket is a bit faster while still a bit of a rarity.

Car Make and Model: Chevrolet Aveo 1.6 LS
Age: 8 years
Mileage: 122,000 km
Plans: With GM out of the country I am planning on trading/selling this in the next 2/3 years, looking at getting an old shape Nissan X-Trail as a family car.

Car Make and Model: Ford Fiesta 1.4 Ambiente
Age: 5 years
Mileage: 116,000 km
Plans: No plans to sell.

Between the Fiesta and The Aveo, the Aveo has been hands down the better car. I have not had any issues with the Aveo in 8 years. The Fiesta:- Front passenger door decided it wouldn't close one day. Had to replace the water pump the other day (around R3.5k).

So I have an update... I still have the Fiesta, Aveo is gone. I have just bought myself a toy

Car Make and Model: Range Rover 4.6L V8
Age: 24 years (1996)
Mileage: 333,000 km
Plans: No plans to sell, yet. Got it as a spare car, going to just fix it up slowly and take it on the odd trip

Out of all the cars I have owned, this car is truly the most incredible car I have owned, and puts a big smile on my face every day.

Ouch, that Ac detonation syndrome where shards of metal get spread through the entire system, if you want to fix it you have to pull the dash + half the car to clean it all out?

Indeed, it would have costed me R30k. So instead, at a tenth of the price, I had the original compressor fitted - the work was 100% not guaranteed - I drove it to my nearest GM dealer and traded it in for R45k. Which is half of what I paid for it and probably the same as I spent on it. Still R5k more than what Peugeot are advertising on Facebook these days.

Technically I now have two "French" cars, although thankfully their VINs are W0 so they are German built. But I do miss my VF VIN beauty, just not her drama and costs.

How is the spare parts situation? My uncle had a Seat SUV , can't remember what is was called. Diesel and automatic. He loved it. He was involved in a small accident recently and it had to be written off because of spare body and suspension parts not being available.

How long ago was that?
Seat's first SUV was in 2016. Also, where was this? SA never brought them in. We only brought in the Leon and Ibiza models

As for my car most mechanical parts are the same as a VW Mk5/6 Platform and for those that are not like bumpers and panels, I order from the VW dealership directly and they get from Spain. Ordered a new bumper last year and headlights. (Mine had seen better days after a decade on the road)

@Sinbad - FYI
Update: Still have the car - on 245k now. - Fully paid off too for good measure.

Car: Renault Clio 4 Dynamique
Year: 2016
Mileage: 44 000
Plan: Trade it in for a Renault Megane 4 RS Lux, F40 BMW 135i or possibly the next BMW 2 series in 3 years time when I can get them used and all the early gen niggles are sorted. Pricing will be the key
Part of me is more than happy to just keep using this car because I settled it, but I cannot help the AutoTrader monkey on my shoulder, every few weeks I think of a budget and go window shopping there to see what I can get.

Altea. Now that I think of it, it is more MPVish than SUVish
The issue was a replacement grill, bonnet panel cross member and fenders was going to cost to much because it had to be brought in from Europe. So insurance just wrote it off. My uncle was pissed. He even offered to source 2nd hand parts but they declined.

Oh, the Altea. Yeah those are more MPVs. Good friend of mine had one. We did sell them here for a short period too now that I think of it. Great cars!

And yeah, that sort of damage it would not be economical to repair sadly. Same would go for my car with that sort of damage - it would be game over.

Your uncle can buy another one. There are a few around.

Car: Mercedes C200 Kompressor
Year: 2009
Mileage: 282 000

Plan: Keeping it.

My Electronic Steering Lock that was reconditioned a few years ago failed again in March. I had it replaced with an emulator for R3000 odd. Had the cat unclogged at Speedy after that for R2000, then put in new shocks. Had the gearbox service too.

Still cheaper than a new car, and I happen to like this one.

Car: Opel Corsa 1.4

Plan: Its paid off years ago. Would like to upgrade to something newer but finances say no. Fortunately it hasn't given me many headaches. Aside from regular services, I recently had to replace the coil pack and last year I had to replace a side shaft.
