A quick question for the ADSL gurus... how 'prioritised' is P2P and VoIP traffic on a SAIX shaped account on a 384 line?

Is it really bad (i.e. dial-up type speeds), is it influenced by the time of day/night, etc.

I have an inkling as to what to expect, but I'd be very grateful for first hand experience.

Many thanks!

I guess a lot would depend on the variety of p2p but I'd have to say not that much really. I doubt it would be excessively noticeable on a 384.

I have a SAIX shaped account and regularly use it for skype without issue.

I have the same as you, but I can only use skype voice on shaped. Video conferencing is non-functional on a shaped 384 line. To use skype video conferencing I must use my unshaped account, then it is okay.

i skype all the time on shaped 384, works 100%.

video conferencing is better with windows live messenger.

you'll notice the video feature in skype is still 'beta'.

Thanks to all of you for the info. I wonder if the problem with Skype video isn't influenced by the upload speed of 128kbps?

No it cant be because, with unshaped on the same 384 line is fine. IT HAS TO DO WITH TELKOM STOPPING ME FROM USING ANYTHING THAT DOESN'T GIVE THEM MONEY.
