South African network operator with plan to tackle global 5G problem

When the United States Department of Commerce placed Chinese technology firms like Huawei on the Entity List in 2019, it didn't just hurt those companies and their customers. It hobbled the progress of 5G worldwide.

Rain South Africa, which had gone all-in on 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) that year, soon began to feel the sting of the U.S. trade war with China.

I don't think the trade war had anything to do with it. Even LTE routers from before still costs thousands.

Well, good luck to them, if they can bring the price of 5G devices down, it will be good for all of us.

Government and corporate want 5G not the man on the street, I don't use 5G at all, it gives me a headache, and most people don't care either way. The 5G plan is a government plan, nothing else.

5G works very well when you can get it. MTN's 5G is available over most of Cape Town and often delivers speeds in excess of 100 mbps

The advent of cheaper 5G routers would be a boon

5G is a Telecoms company boon - they can service more clients, cheaper, and give them better speed.
