The middle class is already paying that. High tax rates, medical aid, pension, private schooling, private security, high insurance...

All because the government is incapable providing decent social services, security and other basic services.

All aspects considered, the middle class is already taxed at 60 %.

It will now be interesting if the fat cats of the opposition parties will drive regular cars and tighten their belts. Somehow I don't think so

Rather focus on creating a growing economy that can sustain job creation resulting in lower unemployment.

"Wealth tax" is just a euphemism for confiscating other people's property. It'll turn SA into a backwater. Bad idea.

If we had real leaders, they could define ten or twenty Great National Upliftment and Renewal Projects and invite people with means to contribute for the sake of the common good. If we had leadership that wasn't venal and corrupt, I suspect a great many people would contribute to that. Especially if it was accompanied by a serious government commitment to protecting and expanding private property rights and ownership in a free economy.

This is just plain k@k.

I hope the anc dies and the DA wins. It will be good for the economy and in return it will set the environment to create wealth for others.

Rather encourage more tax breaks for investing money in start-ups or investment funds that assist entrepreneurs.

Tax the super rich not the middle-class.

Shouldn't everyone be taxed the same proportion? Except for the lower brackets.

Why should only the super rich be taxed more? Not that I even classify as even close to upper-middle class for that matter. It just doesn't seem fair to only tax the super rich more.

Socialism only works until you run out of other people's money, hence socialists preoccupation with getting other people's money, as apposed to making it themselves.

Implement another tax and I take my money offshore. It's that simple.

Good riddance to rotten rubbish.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out

Wow. Talk about an unprovoked attack. I bring USD into the country. That money is generated 100% outside of the country. Therefore my money is actually uplifting SA... Guess my USD is not wanted for the general fiscus though.

Guess you are just salty you can't afford to do just that. Or can't get out of the country. Maybe it's both? I don't really care because you are insignificant and not really smart.

Oh, wait, I get it. You are still mad because I called you racist for trying to bring crime stats into a argument about black versus white earnings.

Feel free to report me. I have already reported you. I fully expect to get this deleted, and/or infracted. I don't really care.

Who is this Harris twit anyway?

You can check out his LinkedIn profile. He incubates startups. He has had a long career and worked on many different ventures. He is experienced, for sure. I always respect people that have been around that long. But anyone that suggests education and taxes above economic stimulation (or at least a multi-pronged approach) does not seem like they really have the solution.

Also, it should be interesting to note he dabbles in Government quite a bit, so maybe there is an answer?
