South Africa's plan to avoid a repeat of the July 2021 riots

Government has committed to strengthening the criminal justice system and employing more security personnel to improve safety measures following the unrest and looting that engulfed the country last year.

Giving an update, on behalf of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster, a year since widespread violence, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thandi Modise, said government is also working with other countries, which have state-of-the-art criminal justice systems, to share their good practices.

According to the Minister, the panel underlined some weaknesses, including the failure of the country’s state institutions to conduct timely risk assessments and forewarn the police and government of the impending violence.

but...

The government was warned about the July 2021 riots months in advance. They didn’t listen. Daily Maverick spoke to several sources with ties to the State Security Agency, Police Crime Intelligence, the military and the Hawks.

Too many weak men for something like this to happen. People would much rather offload the responsibility of protecting their family to some authority figure.

Too many intelligent men for this to happen. People have things to lose, "stong men" generally dont have much to lose.
Why go fight someone else's war when you could just move to a safer country?

SA have a plan? Seriously? BTW nice pics of a fantastic SAP. So they geared up for July. Then the mastermind & cronies have been arrested & jailed? Working with all SA's. Wonder which ones? So much for competence. I believe the Police Minister is the dude with the hat? He screamed @ somebody to SHUT UP. My friend sent the vid. Must say great guy. No wonder.....

Still never heard what happened to the POP units? Only three years previously they were announced having expansions with presence in every Province, and a unit in Pretoria which could be dispatched at short notice to assist. To sit back and just watch looters taking items home was a serious travesty of justice. Unlike the US's 9 Jan riots, where have we held anyone accountable yet? It bodes really badly for investment and private businesses (which impacts employment).

Because borders dont exist.
And crossing them does not require certain documents.
And money.
Ok.
