Anyone have the same experience.

Slow connection, 12kbps, then at 22h00 it picks up to amazing speeds.

What the hell, i'm going to check it again this evening, and see if it happens every night.

Kad, I also connect to Centurion ... used to get 1mb constantly, these days I get 700+ (due to contention I would imagine) with slight improvements from 10pm, but not the leap that you have ...

Well not sure about the contension, but currently i'm getting around 53KB/s MAX on a transfer.

As i dont really download all that much, my average is only around 7KB/s, i play a lot of EQ2.

I'm using Wingate as a firewall/proxy setup, and the PC in the house connect thru that, but i'm having a problem to check what is using bandwidth on the iBurst connection.

Currently i'm using Bandwidth Monitor Pro 1.3 to give me bandwidth usage, but it only indicates the averages, totals and current speeds.

Anyone know of a better tool, something that will should which protocols and using what amount of upload/download.

Was this with a multithreaded dl manager? I max out at about 118KB/s these days ... Might be a sweet spot problem?

Nope that download speed was with a single thread, havent tried multi threads yet.

I'v got netlimiter 1.30, but i find for some strange reason it doesnt display all the apps, waiting for version 2. Might b a problem with it running under XP.

Bandwidth Monitor Pro is Ok, just doesnt display the ports/protocols usage, just overall for the day. :(

RichardG, sounds like you've got malware on your PC & it's trying to chew up bandwidth, which you are limiting with Netlimiter, but perhaps you should also get rid of the malware...?

Ad-Ware Pro works good. Also try Wintask Pro 5.x, will display all the services running in the background, what is nice is that it displays those specific to the OS, and then those that are installed by other vendors, for example a trojan.

Currently trying PRTG Traffic Grapher freeware version, lets see what it does.
You can setup specific ports, else they are displayed as "other", could b good.

Distinct Network Monitor 4.21 is also not bad, sniff that old network, and find out what is using your Bandwidth. Check out your packets.

I do it weekly, it aint that like I've to limit OUTGOING stuff mostly that where everything is going out. I do scan weekly and do an online scan if my PC aint picking up anything and do virus scan daily.

All seems to be well who knows maybe it was WBS screw me around.

I'v noticed something interesting, you cant really use NetLimiter to indicate the amount of incoming/outgoing traffic. I doesnt detect certain apps.

For example, Windows Auto-Update is detected for one.

they are detected but if the thread is run under a different proccess handle it will only show the original proccess handle, same could be said with netstat

holy cow! I thought that wingate is dead!!!

don't you have spare PC in the closet ... install linux! you get full control and monitoring over the network traffic. Use squid for proxy (you can make a transparent proxy so you don't have to configure the windowz PCs), wingate is piece of useless crap!

WinGate? The last I used that prog was back in 1998. Used it to share a 56k modem over 3 PCs in our varsity digs. Oh... WinGate was utter crap back then. :D
