Thursday night
Idiot proceeds to eat a chip wrong and gets stabbed in the gum.

Friday morning
Idiot feels a slight swelling and sensitivity around gum and tingle in back of throat. Starts rinsing mouth with saltwater every 2-3 hours.

Friday night
Idiot doesn't eat anything due to sore throat and now swollen gum. Sleeping becomes interrupted.

Saturday
Lymph node under jaw is swollen and sensitive to touch. Can't open jaw more than 2cm. Drinking plenty of cold water as it's the only thing that's semi bearable.
Day passes without eating anything (had a few Halls mints).

Sunday
Same as Saturday. Idiot can 'feel' the pain moving from his jaw to his ear.

Monday
Same as Sunday, with the added fun of occasional headache thrown in the mix.
Idiot finally decides to phone the doc, run him through the situation and explained that there wasn't a constant pain, only when swallowing or poking at the swollen bits. He says to not poke at the swollen bits and idiot needs to go to the dentist as it sounds like an abscess. Phone dentist to make appointment, tell them it's not an emergency. They say to come in on Wednesday.

Monday night
Feels like getting barely any sleep, waking up every few hours due to sore throat.

This morning

Wake up feeling 'good'. No more pain from swallowing, only a slight tingle where it was previously painful. Swelling is almost completely gone on the lymph node and mouth can be opened wide enough to eat.
Haven't been to the dentist in a while, so will probably still honor the appointment.

So, how stubborn are you when it comes to going to the doctor/hospital/dentist?

I went over ten years without a dentist visit but have had a couple in 2015 and last year.

Doctor, I go every couple of years or so but can go long periods without having need to see them.

never go to the doctor unless if i feel like i am absolutely dying. otherwise i normally call a doctor friend or two if i really need help.

dentists are the most evil people in the world. haven't been to one since 2016. was planning on going soon but then gauteng's covid numbers spiked, so i will wait it out a bit.

By stuffing your face too quickly and having too many chips in your mouth, thus not enough saliva to soften all of it until you chew for a bit. During that chewing time, a still crispy chip became vertically oriented so as I bit down, it caught on my lower gum and got forced in there.

Same here, only go to the Dr. if I am half dead. or need a sick certificate for work.

Dentist however I go to twice a year for cleaning and check ups. Real teeth are worth investing in than dentures.

Aside from needing a few stitches here and there, I haven't been to a doctor in years. But the whole stitches thing also depends on the situation. Had an accident early morning at work? Of course I want to go to the doctor.
Cut my hand while drinking at home? I've got some superglue here somewhere...

Dentist I go for regular checkups.

Doctors I go to when I'm almost dead. Unless its a emergency the GP is overrated.

A man after my own heart. We could have some drinks together and possibly die together...slowly due to infections.

Dentist - try to go once a whenever, but since I got to go to a bombshell of a dentist I try to go every 4-6 months [added her as a friend on Facebook - don't judge me...]
Doctor - have to go at least every 3 months - had a spiderbite 3 years ago and still managing the damage...

Raided some wilsons toffees. My teeth were not as keen as I, so one of them decided to fight back by releasing a filling. Sulked for two weeks, booked an appointment. R1800, a numb face, and feeling violated later, I am free.

Two days later, one of the teeth slow to the party decides it's time to let go of its filling.

I am in that phase where I am coming to terms with having to go back.
