Doctors I'll go to whenever, they don't usually hurt. My SO is the opposite. He'd rather go to the dentist than to the doctor

Family member is going for a hip replacement on Monday. Medical is covering everything except the actual part that needs to be put in (about R3k). When a family friend was cremated years ago, they gave the ashes in an urn and a separate wooden little box that contained the old man's metal hip.
Anyone have perhaps have a spare hip laying about?
And can I ask the doctor for the bone they are taking out? For my doggo.

Went for a checkup this week and now I'm scheduled to get a root canal. This is why I hate going to the dentist. It's never cheap. There goes my holiday money.

Find a dentist that knows what he's doing and it doesn't hurt.
My Dentist is so gentle I cam almost fall asleep in the chair while he's working on me.
On average I'm at the dentist every 6 - 8 months. I have a habit of breaking fillings and I grind my teeth in my sleep.
Doctors I only go if I see the Grim Reaper's shadow lurking in the doorway. Seen a doc twice in the last 6 years or so, once for a broken collar bone and once for a cortisone injection into my elbow.

in 2010 I spent around R30k on getting my teeth 100% perfect and pretty, it lasted for around 18 months then fillings or replaced teeth things (cnc milled to fill cavities too big for standard method) would just fall out again, after that it was an uphill battle of repair every 4 to 6 months till I gave up around 3 years later.

My next visit in 10 years or so will be for dentures.

With the cost of dentists and doctors not being covered by my medical aid, I will resist going as well. The feeling of being death warmed up, well, too bad. That said, the excruciating pain of a tooth abscess will have anyone off to the dentist in a hurry

This is me. I still get anxious but it's well worth it.

I'm a bit strange, I actually find it quite relaxing sitting in the chair having my teeth cleaned. It's one of the few opportunities I get to just sit back and relax with no distractions from my phone, or laptop, etc.

Yeah, for me the worst part is the bill, other than that I don't mind.

Thursday night
Idiot proceeds to eat a chip wrong and gets stabbed in the gum.

Friday morning
Idiot feels a slight swelling and sensitivity around gum and tingle in back of throat. Starts rinsing mouth with saltwater every 2-3 hours.

Friday night
Idiot doesn't eat anything due to sore throat and now swollen gum. Sleeping becomes interrupted.

Saturday
Lymph node under jaw is swollen and sensitive to touch. Can't open jaw more than 2cm. Drinking plenty of cold water as it's the only thing that's semi bearable.
Day passes without eating anything (had a few Halls mints).

Sunday
Same as Saturday. Idiot can 'feel' the pain moving from his jaw to his ear.

Monday
Same as Sunday, with the added fun of occasional headache thrown in the mix.
Idiot finally decides to phone the doc, run him through the situation and explained that there wasn't a constant pain, only when swallowing or poking at the swollen bits. He says to not poke at the swollen bits and idiot needs to go to the dentist as it sounds like an abscess. Phone dentist to make appointment, tell them it's not an emergency. They say to come in on Wednesday.

Monday night
Feels like getting barely any sleep, waking up every few hours due to sore throat.

This morning

Wake up feeling 'good'. No more pain from swallowing, only a slight tingle where it was previously painful. Swelling is almost completely gone on the lymph node and mouth can be opened wide enough to eat.
Haven't been to the dentist in a while, so will probably still honor the appointment.

So, how stubborn are you when it comes to going to the doctor/hospital/dentist?
Congratulations on beating covid!

I'm cash as well, and sometimes think that I should go once a year instead but I don't want to have to spend thousands more if I don't get on top of problems like I didn't years ago and had a whole lot of work needed done.

My dentist charges about R800 for a checkup and cleaning. So R1600 a year is money well spent if you consider how much it could potentially cost you if you don't have your teeth cleaned regularly, or catch a problem early. If there is a problem like a small cavity, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to fill in a small cavity than it is to have a root canal, or replace an extracted tooth with an implant.

Best part is that if it's one filling, your dentist can do it quick quick same time.
