PM me email address - will send a pdf or msword file. There's another 20 pages of footnotes and references containing interesting bits and pieces. They credt hellkom for mantaining 'an excellent repository of informtion' on telkom, and cite at least one MyADSL article.

Considering that SAT-3 access is still exclusively operated by Telkom and most ISP's in SA are little more than Telkom resellers, I would say that Telkom has already hijacked SA internet access.

As a result, policy in the sector has unfolded in fits and starts, marked by many controversial incidents and abrupt reversals of strategy, the cancellation of ICASA regulations by the Minister, and the delay of competitive entry notably in the licensing of a third mobile and a second network operator (SNO).6

It would be interesting if it would be possible to determine the impact on the economy, i.e. did it reduce economic growth by 0.1% or up to 0.8% or something like that. Which one can then change into common language of "up to R20 billion or 20,000 jobs lost per year due to Telkom's greed" or something like that. That is how economists measure the societal impact of monopolistic behaviour. Do anyone know whether such research has been done?

There are three reports that try make use of similar figures.

One is by an American Cole (mid-2006). Another asserts that Telkom's monopoly has cost SA R50 Billion. Another report wth scenario-modelling was commissioned by Solidarity and conducted by Efficient Research (2005).
