How the chartered flight for Afrikaner refugees to the United States was approved

How many Afrikaner monuments/landmarks have been erased? Last I checked, the Voortrekker monument is still standing. Pretoria is still called Pretoria, as is Bloemfontein. How many streets with Afrikaans names can you find in the average SA city? Hell, I live in Durban and I reckon I could find plenty.

Saying that Afrikaaner culture is being erased just because some places have been renamed is not very convincing...

Voortrekker monument was declared a heritage site in 2011......pretty difficult burning down a fully granite building.

Is it now?
Bloemfontein had serious consideration to be renamed to Thabure, Pretoria quite similar Tshwane and has been in limbo for some time. It isn't for a lack of trying.
Go ahead you are welcome to find "new" afrikaans places and streets being added named after historical/political afrikaans figures.
I am all for equality and representation but don't sit there with a straight face and tell me that Afrikaans culture history and legacy isn't being slowly eroded away. If there is an Afrikaans name change it has been in the western cape and nondescript. Has there been ANY name changes to afrikaans historical/political figures in the last 31 years. The most recent in renaming a street in cape town to FW De Klerk and that is a suggestion......and df malan drive that was changed Beyers Naude

Slowly eroding names without adding new ones.....what is that called it......it is on the tip of my tongue.....ah erasing.....

And sure it is reasonable to suggest there is still a disproportional amount representation. The reasonable question is at what point have you reached a balance. The likely hood is you going to end up with only with places in private hands or where little or no interest is shown. Freestate is a prime example, it has a pretty low population density in general and fewest amount of changes in general.

There is two in the entire country named after a afrikaans person, Beyers Naude and only because he was a anti-apartheid activist. Bram Fischer unironically a anti-apartheid activist.

Why don't we see Christiaan Barnard drive or road ? A note worthy south African who should be honored for his achievements.

There is many note worthy Afrikaans south Africans outside the field of politics that can be honored, name changes has been political in perhaps in a small minority, doesn't change the fact that most notable changes has been political....

I just find it moronic and ironic that we call ourselves the rainbow nation can't move forward without making it about politics or racism and sure you don't exactly fix it overnight it has been 31 years would have at least expected some progress to be made....

I wouldn't say it is complex in nature rather what is the motivation behind it, would melting down a statue of DF malan bring anyone closure. ?

Why can't statues and our pass history be moved to a place, where our past history whether good or bad can be acmibly be disgussed and preserved for future generations as a warning and stark reminder of our troubled history. Why does every possible trace of it have to be removed and be forgotten. You don't erase history to move on, you embrass it and remember it.

Just find it waaaaaay troublesome....

It’ll take a bit more than Sipho and his pick axe to take down the Voortrekker monument…

I made a thread for those who have applied for the USA Refugee Admissions Program, so we can update/help each other:

He said all Afrikaaner culture is being erased, so any example I give should be acceptable.

Let me know when it actually happens.

2005... Again, Let me know when it actually happens.

Perhaps you should ask yourself how many Afrikaans names still exist?

Yeah, and attempts was made by your poor examples.
If there was no attempts then it would have been good example
but the attack is happening.

Let me put it this way and this is how your logic sounds to me.

Your bulletproof armour holds for the first couple of shots.
You believe you can be shot a thousand times and it does not matter.
You will just keep wearing the same armour until it fails and say,

When a bullet finally pierces your armour, you cry out.
I don't understand why I am wounded. The armour worked all the other times.

Every successful name change matters; the failed attempts also matter.
A death by a thousand needles.

It's nice to have your head in the dirt.

Voortrekker monument was declared a heritage site in 2011......
So the nasty government, who you claim are hell bent on erasing Afrikaner culture, declared a notable monument of afrikaans culture a heritage site? Doesn't quite fit with your narrative does it?

pretty difficult burning down a fully granite building.
What a silly comment, granite buildings can be demolished... that is not the reason it still exists.

Wait, you think that renaming a road that was previously named after one of the key architects of Apartheid is actually an assault on Afrikaner culture?

Really, only two?

Statues are an odd thing, I certainly don't think Apartheid leaders should be memorialised with statues. There is still a statue of Jan Smuts in Cape Town,.

Oh but I thought you superior genes did everything yourself ? I sense some pollution in Koos's ancestry.
I get it now, you've been ostracised from your clan because you don't match up to their average IQ. They see you as a deleterious gene, which makes perfect sense now.

Note how the blacks make space for him when he does his thing, they never wanted to hog the dance floor because of their BEE status, yet people are always accusing us of things.
@TheChamp not reading the room again. You can clearly see the fear in those black guys. They know just one wrong move and that white oke will bring back Apartheid! Serious oppression having to live with that constant threat hanging over you.

He is the dalit caste from back home and thus carrying a lot of resentment, obsessing over race is the only thing that gives him joy.

LOL - why do you pretend you are white though ? Seriously ?

Guilty as charged but why do you pretend to be white though ? I mean seriously ?

"Genocide" is not mentioned once in the application link so why does he have to share that story with you?

that one was only renamed in 2011 to become Christiaan Barnard St fwiw, was Oswald Pirow before

On the flipside, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it i.e. I don't think there's any sense in editing history, "apartheid leaders" were in fact our leaders, just like Hitler was Germany's and Stalin was the USSR's.

Tearing down statues is a waste of energy, the memorial can take on new meaning, one of reminding us of times best to not repeat. No need to put up new ones for anyone that is no longer "in favour", but tearing existing ones down is one of the dumbest things I've seen done across the world.
