South Africa also might want to look to Russia. As the most liquid of emerging market currencies, the rand is highly sensitive to investor flows.
Investors, especially international investors, are fleeing from the Rand. This can already be seen in capital outflows, which just seems to increase month over month. Those who already fled and cut their losses are currently ignoring the Rand and South Africa, as Cyril Ramaphosa found when begging them to return investors. Following other markets will not be a solution to the issues South Africa is facing. Other markets may pick up again and do better, but South Africa is the only emerging market about to crash in total and send the country into poverty and famine.
