We went the past long weekend and they now have self Tap-to-Pay for nearly every booth at all toll gates. Only exceptions were e-tag-only lanes.

The best way to prevent your bank card from getting cloned or skimmed is to avoid inserting it into any devices and instead use contactless payments or withdrawals whenever possible.

Nearly all bank cards issued today have a Europay, Mastercard, and Visa (EMV) chip, which makes them very difficult to tamper with or clone, unlike older chip-less cards.

If this is correct how do criminals manage to buy stuff online with stolen card details? QUOTE: SABRIC also pointed out that criminals would only be able to get a card number and expiry date by holding a skimming device near the card.

Capitec card is not embossed so won't work at toll gates unless they've changed it.

My Discovery card isn't embossed and I've used it at the Huguenot Toll Plaza twice in the past 3 years.

I live far from the tunnel. Ceres, but when we do go to Cape Town once a month we go over the pass, it is only 11km longer and much more beautiful than a boring stinky dark tunnel

Not to mention that (depending on the car and traffic conditions) you can coast in gear all the way from the top of Dutoitskloof to the end of the pass heading toward Cape Town, without using any fuel.

So the SABRIC statement is not entirely correct? You are correct because my SA card was used to buy car spares -- and KFC! --- in the US. BTW this is not the first time that SABRIC has made soothing statements about how safe bank cards are. They really should stop the spin. And journalists should query SABRIC's claims in the future.

Just use e-tag. More convenient, especially on long journeys with heavy traffic.
