Yes, I am a marriage officer. Yes, I can help you get married legally for free. No, I cannot marry you without an ID document, that is a legal requirement. No I cannot marry you tonight quickly, you need to send me all the documents ahead of time so that I can verify if the marriage can legally proceed. No I am not trying to be difficult. Yes, those requirements are all necessary and are required by law. No, I cannot give you an Ante-Nuptial contract tonight before you get married (I am not a lawyer). Yes, you have to actually send the documents to me ahead of time, you can't just "bring them with you tonight". Why not? Because I don't think you are ready and when you show up tonight without the necessary documents then you will have wasted my time and yours. Yes, I do have some opening early next year, but I'm still going to need those documents ahead of time. Sheesh people. The marriage act says that a marriage officer may withdraw himself from any marriage proceeding where he is not convinced that the parties have sufficiently prepared themselves for this wedding. What is it with some people? Getting married is not like going to the movies.

Don't know why you removed my post...

Asking what this post is for, it's not in reference to anything... smells like a cheap self promotion.

What is up with all this?

You don't need to be married to procreate anymore... Just drop all the useless laws.

Astonishingly undeveloped view of relationships, marriage, children, and parenting. Very sad.

I didn't delete, your post. I replied to it. But my reply also got deleted.

My reply was "Did you miss the part about "I can help you get married legally for free"?

The post was copied from my FB page. I was ranting about people who call me out of the blue and want to get married today or tomorrow with no preparation.
It was a rant, I thought i'd share it here.

BTW, if you take a look at the bottom of this forum, you will see a list of who the Mods are for this forum....

Your organisation needs to write the letter first.
There's no point to even trying without sponsorship.

Question more for curiosity than anything else. What does a marriage officer do after the service? I'd presume that some documents need to be taken to the local home affairs? Do to get to jump the long queue to hand them in?

(Sorry for thread necro, have had an issue of a lack of marriage officers at the church lately so I got thinking about the topic and came across this thread on my search.)

I know a guy who does funerals, if you are interested in that angle

He also does not charge, but frequently is given stuff and about 3 years ago, one widow was so impressed with the way he conducted the service, she gave him her late husbands Ford Kuga and arranged the transfer, etc. It was only 3 weeks old at the time. He of course most reluctantly accepted it

Hi all. I am an ordained minister, and I have a registered NPC church here in South Africa - Durban South to be precise. We have 3 directors on board of which I am one. We are a small and little known church. I am also a licensed Christian Wedding Officiant.
I have studied via correspondence (USA - Michigan) since 2013. I am a current student working towards my Degree. All of my ministry study credentials is of abroad.

Considering the above... What steps can I take to become a registered marriage officer here in South Africa...and if any, how do I go about applying for the same. I am also the founder and senior pastor of our church.
Would greatly appreciate your help with this.
Thanks & Regards

You should both mail it and take it in person. I know that sounds weird, but it's just better that way.
You need a letter from the Head of your Church Organisation or Council specifically approving you and requesting that Home Affairs appoint you as a Marriage Officer.
If you are part of a smaller group of Churches or an organisation that is not as well known, then you will need some kind of proof of the existence and purpose of the organisation.
But if it is a well known and well recognised organisation then it is not necessary.
What is the email address for this office

Many thanks Gary - we will draft accordingly and submit. Are there other documents that must go along with the letter to HA?
Hi Debbie, were you successful with your application motivated with a letter form a partner at your firm?
