Hey guys, so as the title states is this possible? Well according to many forum users and apple support no it is not. You have to register a US credit card to change your South African Apple ID to a US one. Well I made the mistake to change from my US account to South Africa to try something and found I could not change back to the US one as the "None" payment option was no longer available. All my apps are on my US account and thus I cannot update or use in app purchases anymore. Well I found a way to change your ID to the US stroe without the need of a credit card, maybe this will help some guys out here who want to achieve something similar:

1. Fire up your iTunes Desktop Application
2. On the top navigation bar select "Store" and select "Sign In". If your are signed in ignore this.
3. Now head right to the bottom and in the links to the right select "Account".
4. Under your account click on your region.
5. Click on "Change Region"
--- It will go through some pages about policy and look as if you are creating a new account. Now this page will have all the information as if a new account. CC details and options, Redeem a Voucher, Billing Details.

6. Head over to http://www.evopoints.co.za and get yourself an iTunes voucher for whatever amount. You could use any if the other good stores for vouchers, I just chose evopoints because I have used them in the past.
7. Once you have a voucher head over to http://www.realusaaddress.com/ and get a US address. The important parts are just the street, state and zip code. The name and surname can be anything as well as the phone number as long as it follows the right pattern with a valid area code.
****
EDIT:
As per clasqm's suggestion and addendum these are some states that don't charge sales tax:
1. Alaska
2. Delaware
3. Montana
4. New Hampshire
5. Oregon
****
8. Fill in all these details.
9. Pop in your newly purchased voucher number and leave the credit card details blank.
10. Hit Continue
11. On the next page(on mine there was another page) select None as your normal payment method. Click on Continue.
12. That's it, your store will now Change over to the US store.

Some notes:
When you enter the voucher code in the payment method it does not get redeemed automatically. Just hit redeem in the app store and enter it again.
AFAIK you cannot sync apps that are only available in the SA store on a US account, but if they are available they should sync up, as it's the same Apple ID. I have not tested this but I will try.

So after many weeks of searching for a solution because I didn't want to lose my game scores and apps that aren't available on the SA store I found this method after playing with almost everything in the iTunes settings. I hope it helps someone who has the same or similar issue that I did.

P.S another workaround is to change the Store to Kenya and use your SA Credit Card for purchases, but this has been covered in many posts.

Just a quick question: I had to create a new iTunes account (somehow they found out that I was not from the USA and my previous account was blocked). This one went through fine, but then I was charged tax on an app? I used a Delaware address? Should I try an address from Alaska perhaps?

Yeah Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hamsphire, Oregon.
BTW how'd they find out and block you? Any tips for the rest of us with US accounts?

I have a suspicion, but it might be totally unfounded. My account gave problems twice. And both times it happened after buying vouchers online (from a SA supplier). They are not sure how it could have happened, but it did. Coincidence perhaps? Maybe it was just bad timing. But I have bought and successfully used vouchers from Ebay and never had a problem.

Both times after I loaded this voucher, did everything appear to be ok. But as soon as I did any in-app purchases, I would get the "contact customer support" and "can't connect to iTunes" messages.

The first time things just came right after a couple of days - not sure how many. This time around I did the worst thing possible lol. I contacted support and they referred me to their terms of conditions and two days later the account was blocked.

Advise, if it happens to you, stay away from them! Lol

I changed my address to an address in Alaska and did another in app purchase and this time I didn't pay tax. So Alaska works great. My first address was in Delaware, but I was still charged tax. Bummer as it reduced my credit by just enough that I am now sitting with a stupid little amount left - and might not have the ipad long enough to use it. Selling it to buy a Galaxy Tab.

Thanks - but I meant "which online voucher store did he purchase from, that he suspected were the cause of his problems" - as suggested above...

FWIW - I use Evopoints. Always worked, never any issues.

Hi. Seems I was wrong. It wasn't the voucher I was buying in SA that was the problem. It was the one I bought on Ebay. Be careful. Sellers name is tooanhvux. The first time I bought from him, my account was suspended 2 days later. I didn't notice anything suspicious because I had bought from a local vendor a day later and assumed it was the local vendor's purchase that caused the trouble.

I then proceeded to get a new account and purchased (with my old email) another voucher from this dude on ebay. He then proceeded to ask me what my account name was to deposit the voucher value directly. That should have sounded the warning bells.

I bought some stuff and it worked and two days later the account is blocked again.

Fortunately for me, the account balance wasn't that high.

So now I use it without doing any purchases.

iTunes ios7 country issues

Hi, I downloaded ios7 to my iPad (live in SA) and have a us iTunes account.
After downloading my apps needed to updated, I have tried but keeps saying I need to switch to the us store. I then noticed my App Store and iTunes Store on the iPad has been changed to SA, which is what I don't want. I have logged into the iTunes website and the store on there is still US but it won't change on the iPad.
After reading the apps store now has some new feature which will open the store near where you live (in my case SA) and now I can't download any apps which appear on apps gone free as these are linked to the US store.

Anyone else having issues with this or know how to change the iTunes country on ios7...am desperate here and yes I still have a voucher on the iTunes account in US dollars.

Help me please

Thanks:(

Just open up Settings on your iPad

1. Scroll down to "iTunes & App Store"
2. Open your apple ID
3. "View Apple ID"
4. Click on "Country/Region"
5. Click on "Change Country or Region";
6. Scroll ALL the way to the TOP - "United States"
7. Accept the Terms and Conditions
8. Select Payment as "None" Last one on the Payment options list
9. Get an address in one of the TAX free states from
9.1 Enter "Oregon" into the search box and click search (Any of the mentioned states will do!)
10. Use the generated address to fill into "your" new address block under "Billing Address"

Accept these and it should say Congratulations and off you go!

From past personal experience THE MAJORITY of ebay voucher sellers are fraudulent. I think you have better luck sticking with online retailers. I found itunes-giftcards.com through google and have never had a problem with them. It helps that they a thousands of customer reviews on their facebook :)
