Can't get any answers, email or 808 on how to do this.

I have 3 phones on contract but want to change one to prepaid as the data being eaten on FB etc is killing me. ( hope daughter is not reading this!)

That phone has only been on my contract for 6 months.

How much cheaper is prepaid data?

Thanks

Well you need to call 808 and ask them to transfer you to the retentions department. They will be able to advise how much it will cost to convert it to prepaid.

Data is normally cheaper on contract.
Rather load a decent data bundle. These 20mb bundles or out of bundle is very expensive

If you on a 24 month contract then 6 month in, you have little hope without a penalty fee

With Vodacom, if you cancel your contract before it expires, you will pay hefty penalties. The penalties are calculated as follow:

(subscription per month) * (number of months remaining on contract) * 75%

MTN probably the same.

Geez, good luck with that, should have gotten a prepaid or topup contract from the start.

One option is to closely monitor the data on there (with Vodacom I can do it online, haven't tried with MTN) so it cant go out of bundle (I assume that's whats killing you) and buying more data when it gets low.

I guess you don't want her number to change?

6 month its going to cost you an arm and a leg to cancel early Probably your current subscription per month x 18
I'm guessing your daughter is getting charged Out of bundle rates (R2 a Mb) you will pay the same on prepaid if you don't buy data bundles.

I suggest you start investing in data bundles it works out cheaper to buy a bundle in advance rather then paying oob rates

I think you need to start teaching your daughter about managing her data - hoping she doesn't read this is not a good way to start.
If she has an android I suggest you install this MTN Data widget on her phone so she can monitor her usage real time.
Also maybe tell her to stop using the FB app and use chrome or opera with data optimisation.
Considering your question i'm assuming you not familiar so i suggest you do a bit of reading up on data usage management as well

Thanks folks, started today with switching off FB unless at home or at work where both are unlimited.

Totally new to the ins and outs of data, you are correct. That widget may do the trick, thanks.

Loaded the data widget on my phone. The money, (calls ) seems correct as is the balance of SMS's. The data balance shows 0 MB however ? I have on my contract 100 MB per month and usually use between 75 to 95 MB . I have used 6.6MB since the 8th being my cycle date yet the balance shows 0 ?

Get data from Axxess, it is much cheaper than MTN data if you want to keep using FB on your phone.

check under your android data usage (under settings ) it should have all the details for your usage.
You may need to set your data dates.

Thanks, yes that's where I'm looking on my phone. I know my data usage but it's showing 0 on the app?

call 808
speak to agent (0)
get them to callup your account with that number
ask to convert THAT number to prepaid.

If there are any funds outstanding then you'll get a bill on the next billing cycle.
It can take 2 - 24 hrs to convert
