By your reasoning we should then drop Mackie....

That is what is suggested from the start, have amla open with smith seeing as he did a good job in the ODIs and I pretty much think any player will do what is needed to be in the team atm, Im sure even Ntini would open if that was the clincher to be in the test side :p:D

  1. Smith
  2. Amla
  3. Kallis
  4. AB
  5. Prince
  6. Duminy
  7. Boucher
  8. Morkel
  9. Harris
  10. Steyn
  11. Ntini

12th man Mackie

Pretty solid team there, I would say though that having 2 bowlers and haris who can hardly bat isn't that great I have always been a favor of all-rounders,

I would swap Ab and Kallis around though,

Nha Morkel can hold a bat and that batting lineup till 7 is VERY solid. IIRC all the bats till nr 6 avrg 40+ :D

Also I like specialists because you get picked to do a job and then you must do it, bowlers must take wickets and batsmen score runs.

4 bowlers, an all rounder and 2 part time bowlers(smith, duminy) would be fine im sure :)

Then looking at those first 7 batsmen all I can say is damn! We have 3 aggressive bats (smith, ab and boucher), 2 moderate(amla, duminy) and 2 "bat till doomsday" bats (prince and kallis).
