How to get a firearm licence in South Africa - and the battle against new gun laws

The only "negative" thing about the G26 is the small grip.
I found the best way is to only have my 2 bottom fingers curled around the grip, use my middle finger for the trigger, and have my index finger lined up (to the target) just below the slide (and supporting my shooting hand with the other hand).
It takes a little getting used to, but once you are used to it, it works very well.

I have had my Glock 43X now for almost a year now and I am not regretting it for 1 second. When I went handgun shopping I initially looked at the G26 but after handling the G43X, I decided to rather get it instead. What sold me on it was the grip, it just felt right in my hand compared to the G26, and how slim it was.

I also have a CZ P07 Duty and I never EDC'ed it because it is just bulky and heavy. The G43X in comparison is so easy and comfortable to EDC, whether you carry it on your belt or in a sticky holster in a jacket or pants pocket.

Wrt to magazine capacity, I normally also just throw in an extra mag in another pocket which will give you a total of 21 rounds 2X10 + 1, which should be more than enough.

Lol, I have never heard of someone gripping a gun this way before. Is it common for subcompacts?
I would rather get an extended mag for the pinky to grip.
I don't know how common it is, but I can assure you that it works very well (for me anyway).

I've owned or do own all of the models in this thread. None of them are bad choices. I stick with the 26 because I am by now very comfortable with tucking my little finger under the grip, and shoot it even better than my 19X, 19, 17 or 34. But it takes getting used to. But they definitely will do the job. Just needs extra training.
The 43X is really a great choice. Grip is smaller than the 19. Very accurate. Decent spares, plenty of accessories and holsters. And it carries well. Plus Shield mags will get you 15rnds without any extension.
Don't license Sec 15 before Sec 13. License it for the main purpose you are buying it for. If that's SD, then license it as such. In spite of what the GS and GOSA fanbois will tell you, the truth is that SAPS IS eventually going to amend the FCA, and they WILL close that loophole of carrying sec 16 or 15. They aren't dumb, and they know they slipped up when writing the act. Just make your life easier and do Sec 13 first.
Another great choice (if you can find one) is the HS11 "Hellcat" which is as good or better than the 43X. Sig P365 is very good too, but overpriced and lacks backup service.
That said, if someone wanted to only ever own ONE gun in their life, it should be a G19. Lots of reasons.
HK...don't bother. CZ P07 or P10? Not bad choice. They are decent.
If you want something to SD and also play on the range a decent amount of time, get the 19. Doesn't matter which gen. They all work 100%. If only for SD, get something a bit smaller. This is SA. Shorts and a T-Shirt don't hide big guns easily.
Ask if you have any other questions.

Mossberg also makes a smaller frame pistol now, got a bit of a clunky safety as it is a crossbolt like a shotgun apparently.
Do some section 15/16 research, S13 is fine but always start your renewal way ahead of the prescribed 90 days.for any license.
Best advice is already in the thread, handle the ones you like a few times and watch youtube vids about their pro's and cons on various channels, there is no shortage of info.
Whatever you decide on should be governed by shooting comfort and ability to conceal etc as mentioned.

I like the new Mossbergs a lot. Both models impressed me. It is just a shame that Mossberg suffers from poor agents, lack of spares and not much history of SD pistols. But I think they may be an underrated choice.

And prepare for the wait.... I waited 11 months this time to get me license renewed.

As I understand it these days you have to hand in your competency first then wait.... when that is approved you can actually buy the gun and hand in your license application .... and wait

You can buy the gun at any time, most shops will give free storage for a year or two, if you buy it before clearing the competency hurdle then you can possibly end up paying storage, you could end up paying anyway with the way things are going nowadays.
The gun just will not be released to you until you produce the license.
