how to get futurehood when telkom doesn't believe I have access to LTE at all

Hey Ladies and Gents

so I've been trying to get a large data package for a reasonable price in my neighbourhood, so obviously the 1st thing I tried was getting ADSL, but was initially regrettably informed that there is no infrastructure for ADSL where I live, to which I responded with sending an email from telkom back to them that they told me that there is infrastructure available for 10Mbps ADSL...

To which they then responded with, "the exchange is full, and we don't know when ports will become available"

as you can imagine I'm already quite frustrated at this point, so I decided, I'm going to get LTE instead, but the coverage map clearly states I have none of that either, so off I go to the Telkom store in a feeble attempt to persuade them to send a technician over to my house to see if I can in fact pick up an LTE signal as I know these coverage maps are not always accurate, and if so perhaps join one of their contracts. of course to no avail, speaking to customer service over the phone I was told that if I go to a shop they would be able to send a technician...

so failing that, I trawled through gumtree and picked up a B593s-601, went home, plugged it in, and voila 2 bars of LTE and 26Mbps download/2Mbps upload speed on my prepaid telkom SIM. so I was curious about whether or not I could get one of these futurehood uncapped deals, so I looked at that coverage map and realized that I miss the futurehood base stations by less than 2km in almost a full circle around me, and the map app tells me I can not apply... so I wonder if there is a representative here who can actually be of assistance, as I do in fact have LTE coverage, steady enough to VPN into the office all day

TL;DR;
long story short, can't get adsl in my hood
adsl story 1: no adsl coverage
adsl story 2: exchange is full in my area

coverage map says no LTE coverage at my house
bought B593, found LTE signal, need uncapped
would like to get a futurehood uncapped LTE, the other base stations around me are almost completely unoccupied with less than 6 uncapped LTE users on each, can I not just be connected to one of those as I am so close to those base stations... how do I get connected to one of these base stations

hoping for a happy ending ;) ... so to speak :D

They don't come to the premises to physically install do they?

I would work out which tower your modem is connecting to and then lie about your address that is in that towers coverage zone. Get an upgraded external antenna and set it up right and you're golden.

so I could lie about my address and they'd believe it ? I really don't mind installing an antenna myself, from what I've heard, the routers for that deal, do come with an external, outdoor antenna... but they'd need proof of residence for a contract wouldn't they ?

btw, what's the easiest way to work out which tower I'm connected to ?

I'm gonna take a wild guess regarding the tower I'm connected to, I'm guessing it's the one which I'm supposedly 700m "out of LTE range" from, that's the closest one.

Buy it in your friend/parent/dogs address that does have coverage?
Just get them to write a letter that states you live there and some or other proof of residence.

We live in a world now where systems decide everything for you it can be infuriating. It took me forever to get adsl installed in fact I tried several times over 5 years in the end wining to telkomza on this forum made the difference.

Telkom Unlimited is locked to specific towers AFAIK, he'll have to fake an adress that is in the coverage zone of the towers he can connect to.

It is not locked ,a few members have tested it in different areas even different provinces. Must have telkom LTE coverage then you sorted.

Is this 100% confirmed?
So only way to apply if you live outside the area is to fake the address? I live 4 km from the tower and like 2kms form that blue circle however my area is in LTE space.

what to do?

I would love to get some confirmation of this myself before I tie myself to a 24 month contract, I really hope we can get some guys confirming this information.

what I'd also like to know is if after faking the address, I can give them a different delivery address. it wouldn't serve me very well having someone else receive my goods :D

99% Confirmed by me . Just waiting for the device to be delivered ,the telkom system upgrades is really slowing down the process!

I stay in a LTE area ,but not in a unlimited lte area.

this is starting to look promising, thanks for the response, keep us posted

I have some questions though.
1. did you apply online ?
2. if so, was it with your own non-lte address?
3. please do advise how you managed to do that, as when I try to apply It just tells me to show my interest.

1. I applied online.
2. Yep I dropped the pin on the nearest area covered by the deal to get the ticket number. Then I phoned them with the ticket number and applied with my real address.
3. Read above :p

I live in an area with no LTE coverage with the closest coverage (LTE-A by the way) a good 7km away. I on advice from a person in Telkom HQ selected a point on the fringe of the coverage and when called confirm the point but used my actual address as the address for RICA process. I determined that I am connecting to the tower and that the tower is actually 8.3km in a direct line from my house. I am still very happy with the speeds and do get 20Mbps down and about 8.5Mbps up. Signal strength is -92db and my RSSI is 16.

Measured distance from tower to my location today on the google maps ruler tool and it is 2.1km away from the tower. Going to get telkom to come and demo so that I can see how strong the signal is. Staying in the complex so the poll is kind of out the question however my balcony points towards the that tower and there are not many tall trees in the way.

Anyone stays around 2-3km away? how are the speeds?

I'm gonna assume the futurehood symbol in the center of the coverage is the tower, I'm about 700m from the end of the coverage area, and about 1.7km from that symbol, I'll drive there over the weekend to confirm if there is actually a tower at that specific point...

but with that said. 1.7km get's me 2 bars of signal without an outdoor antenna, just those 2 little standard antennas on an old B593, got 25Mbps during the initial testing for the 1st couple of days, yesterdays tests were between 14Mbps and 20Mbps, tested between 16:00 and 22:00, hope that helps

side note: I pick up LTE better than 3G, put it on 3G just out of curiosity and got 1 bar, and speeds between ranging between 2Mbps and 4Mbps
