How to get rid of / repel garden moles?

Our garden is next to a nature reserve.

We have carefully rejuvenated it, planting beds of flowers and bringing the lawn back to life.

Now we have moles. Who are digging everything up. Ruining all our hard work :(

What can we use to repel them? (we don't really want to kill them, even if this was possible).

Something like this work? : http://www.sustainable.co.za/solar-moler-solar-mole-repeller-eco-home.html

Keen to hear people's suggestions / experiences.

You have my sympathy but no workable suggestions and I think I've tried them all with the exception of poisoning (I've got dogs).

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Thanks, man.

I really hope there is something we can do.

The size of the tunnels they have already dug is astounding.

I had a good thing going - the moles would provide a convenient disposal chute for the dog turds. Seems they got tired of the honk, I now have to dig my own holes.

We have cats, so could try something similar...

How I got rid of my moles accidentally.

1.Dig a pond
2.Get goldfish
3.Wait
4.Heron arrives
5.Heron finishes goldfish
6.Get more goldfish
7.Heron finishes goldfish
8.Repeat cycle a few times and give up with the goldfish
9.Heron starves and finishes off all the moles while looking for food :erm:

We used to have the same problem where we lived previously. I tried the following, and it worked, but you need patience and tenacity.:

Regular patrols of your garden. Take a watering can or hose. Watch the mole heaps. If you see slight movements of the sand, it means Mr Mole is digging below. Dig open that hole and pour water down the hole. Do this every day. They will eventually realise it is a hostile environment and move away.

Dig open the holes you can see and sprinkle some "Get Off My Garden" (sort of green jelly-like granules available ate pet section of supermarkets) granules down the holes. The sharp smell of the granules will discourage them. Do this regularly.
This constant guerilla warfare will eventually drive them away permanently.

Hectic. OK. We've been doing that so far. Let's see how it pans out.

Open its hole. stuff a raw fish in...Cover up and laugh sadistically. That smell is enough to drive anything away permanently.

My father did this and the moles never returned. I seriously don't know if it works. Maybe find out is moles are herbivores and have an acute sense of smell.

My dogs will rip that fish apart!

An old ballie told me just pour some petrol into their holes, they will never come back. Surprisingly enough, it worked for me.

Chuck a moth ball down each hole seems to chase them away most of the time.

Our previous dog a fox terrier was also a pretty good mole, guinea fowl, rat, mouse, anything that moves killer.

Solar Moler from Superplants. Works for me. Got one each side of plot. Solar charged battery. Makes a buzzing sound every 30 seconds. Stick some toilet paper down the tube though or else you hear it above ground too. Was just over R300.

This area has hectic moles everywhere. I've soon some homemade solutions. Stick a metal rod in the ground with a empty 2 liter plastic bottle upside down on top. The breeze makes it tap the rod sending sounds into the ground. Doesn't look nice though

I'm pretty sure the plastic bottle actually attracts the moles. Will try some of the other suggestions in this thread.

My cat never caught them but used to take a dump down the mole hole. Didn't stop them from coming back :D
