The Max 3 that I ordered on 28 Nov was EVENTUALLY in the GearBest warehouse on 24 Dec. DHL picked it up in the 27th and it was delivered at my home on the 31st. DHL initiated the customs pre-clearance automatically. I can recommend DHL 100% based on this delivery.
What were the customs charges? Right now it isn't a courier issue its a Gearbest issue.

Customs was about R520 on the Max.

GearBest unfortunately tend to be rather inventive with estimated dispatch dates.

Not bad is that the total cost inclusive all the fees
Yep. Service+ shipping was R3800. Bank fees a bit over R100 and the full DHL charge was about R520. Under R4.5k for a Max 3 is a bargain if you compare to local prices.

Seems like I'm being charged on every parcel that comes in with Buffalo now. The amounts are small and value of parcels are all under R500. Some of the parcels I'm being charged when it is cleared in China before departure.

Ah well, if it's small amounts it's still worth it seeing that the shipping charges are normally quite cheap.

My parcels still haven't been delivered. Most of them have been in the country since 24/12

Give it time. They (assuming your parcel is coming via Buffalo and not Aramex/Sapo) are clearly working through the 'backlog', when looking at the posts in this thread.

I just don't understand how they clear the "backlog". There are 2 parcels of mine that will most probably delivered tomorrow but they arrived in the country a few days after my other parcels that still shows "In bound manifest to hub"

I paid $271 for everything which is R3780 didn't expect so much wtf now it's more of the actual full cost of the item
edit: is R3870 what you paid gearbest or is it the total after fees?

Calculating customs VAT is 15% of R3870 gives you R567, they charged R479.

The Duties are a further 7% which is another R264, they charged you R274.

The clearance fee of R260 is their standard rate for all small items now.

You would only pay less if you got it past customs without detection or if it was labelled as a different item, I see in one of your earlier tracking messages shows it listed as a mobile phone so no luck there, some guys paid less cause it was marked as a media player.
