Go to a Telkom Direct office, order your ADSL - marking it a "self install" option, buy your little ADSL router, plug it in, configure it using the software and manual provided, wait for Telkom to activate the ADSL on your line, check weather your router syncs with the exchange...and voila.

they are going to start charging for self install ( no fualt from telkom )
Hmmmm...? You might have a point. Here where I live the infrastructure is also rather dodgy and the lines are even worse - I could only manage 29.4Kb/s dial up negotiation on my line before upgrading, with Telkom unable to improve the line quality. They offered me 512k ADSL on the same kaak line - no issues - and I'm currently running very stable at 384k.Toxin said:Yip, that's what I did. No, you don't save me R404. Telkom's Self-Install option saves me R404.
Self-installs are usually completed 3 to 5 times faster than Telkom installs simply because of the lack of Telkom technician.
It may not be a bad plan for you, exploiting Telkom's terrible customer service to lure in ADSL noobs so you can make some easy cash with a handbook that anyone with any tech know-how could write. You claim this "glitch" in their ordering system (which sounds like a complete scam to me) and expect people to pay you to unveil it to them?
So what if you're the author, your bias nullifies any comments you make. I would like to see some of your "happy people" who bought this "product" come onto the forum and sing its praises too.
Either way, exploiting Telkom's deathgrip on SA's telecommunications infrastructure and broadband just to make some cash, rather than offering your assistance to the community to aid in the struggle is selfish and downright arrogant.
