Genuinely don't see the point of buying a top end phone and not having 'out of the box' access to the apps I use on the device as a matter of course.

If you don't use any of the Google apps, then sure, it makes sense, but if you do...

Anyone heard of Aurora Store?
Yeah, works great, used on my android TV device where the Google Play Store blocks all but the most basic apps.

It's basically a wrapper for the Play store without all the restrictions, you do need to know what app version is compatible with your device and Android version.

Or... get an iphone?
aaaah "MYHuawei"
Yup something decent like an iPhone, Samsung or pixel.

The multiple articles published about how the Huawei watch is better than the Apple watch... Now this gem... just to convince you that there is no real issue with buying something that doesn't work with Google out of the box.

Being an Android fanboi myself (OnePlus FTW!!). Have a OnePlus 6T currently, so looking to upgrade. I'm really tempted by the iPhone 12 series. I love the industrial design and that perfectly flat screen. My last iPhone was the iPhone 4... 10 years ago! Been on Android ever since.

According to reviews, the iPhone 12's insane performance of the A14 Bionic chipset and camera is just next level... never mind HDR video recording support too.

It's the simplistic design that intrigues me. It just works.

There's nothing worse than Samsung and Huawei's curved screens. They serve no purpose and just cause palm rejection and visual aberration issues. Never mind the bloated software.

I wonder if Biden will drop the restrictions on Huawei and they can get back to using good old GMS again.

I wonder if Huawei is going to switch back to Android after this
If they get unbanned, definitely. They may, in the background, continue to build up their own platform etc. But I don't see them making a full recovery without going back to Google.
For all their bitching about one way door and Google has a choice before it can never be undone, nobody but the few fanboy loonies (of which there is at least one in this thread), are willing to put up with the Huawei non-Google situation.
