How to make Telkom jump

I just thought I'll spread the word on how to get some proper service out of Telkom. My 192kbps ADSL line was installed during May of this year. However, I kept having problems with speed, and the line going down from time to time. Great was my joy when I heard that Telkom was going to upgrade my 192kbps line to 384kbps, for free, during August. However, until today, I was still connected at only 192kbps. Telkom said the line can't sync at a higher speed, despite me living in the middle of Pretoria (not exactly the platteland). So, I sent an email to Beeld, to their "Tot u diens" service. Telkom received my letter from Beeld yesterday. Two different Telkom employees called me today during the day, to tell me that they are investigating the situation. I just checked my connection speed, and I'm finally connected at 384kbps!!! On the same line as I was using previously - which supposedly couldn't handle anything faster than 192kbps. I'll see over the next couple of days what happens, and if I continue at this speed.

So, if you want Telkom to do stuff, go to the media!!!

Telkom are on jumping all over the show nowadays.. and i see they are actually quite fast too.

Installation times have increased, and the helplines are actually quite informative :>>

I aint a fan of telkom, but it seems they are trying to get things and their act together.

Telkom is finally feeling the pinch they, already, according to one of their technicians, have already lost big business of big companies, thats a great sign.

The SNO will shortly start to offer services and due to that Telkom will again lose business, mine, all my friends and my family for example, so its time to pay back, burn devil burn ... you dug your own grave ....

I feel feathers for you Telkom. The quicker you go down the quicker the party will start.

Please people, Telkom isnt suddenly being all efficient because they want to be or cos they have suddenly seen the light. They are now under threat due to Neotel. Its good yes but lets be under no illusion that they actuallt care.

Trust me "Tot u Diens" doesn't just work for Telkom! I've done it with a few places and they all respond very well to it :D Nothing threatens your business like a complaint in a paper like Beeld.

If Telkom are now responding to consumer complaints, why do they still not have a presence on hellopeter?

My father in law works for telkom and has on more than one occasion mentioned to me that the main objective in the ranks of the Telkom hierarchy is to focus on Corporates rather than residential users. They are not at all concerned about loosing market share in retail business. Infact, reading between the lines, it is clear that we are more a burden to them than anything else.

All is good if they are jacking up their service now, but i dont foresee this as sustained improvements...

These are just my thoughts after numerous dicussions with my inside connection which started more than 2 years ago...

Anybody else here who has similar information from reliable Telkom sources. would be interesting to know what other employees take is on this...

71% of revenue is from govt and business - damn right they have more interest in businesses!

Yeah, I really don't see Telkom's service getting any better. Before I sent the letter to Beeld, I had been calling Telkom regularly for more than a month to find out why the line was so slow, and always got some sort of lame excuse. It was not until they were threatened that they actually did something useful.

A guy from Telkom actually called me yesterday, making sure that I was happy. When I asked hom why the line can all of a sudden handle 384k, he said that maybe there was traffic on the line previously, preventing it from synching at anything faster than 192k. Yeah right... And he said that the line had in fact synched at 512k, during one test they did. I'm thinking that the line was fine all along, Telkom just did not bother to upgrade it.

As for Neotel, as soon as I can, I'm switching me and everyone I know to them, even if they charge twice as much as Telkom. And all my friends at University feels the same way, and the people at University today are gonna be running the South African economy of tomorrow. So Telkom is in fact shooting themselves in both feet by neglecting residential customers.

Burn Telkom, burn!!!:D :D

Napalm, which Telkom have you been phoning??

"and i see they are actually quite fast too."

I waited two months just to get an installation date out of them, then another montha and a half for the installation date, and now more than a week (and countless calls) to find out why they didn't pitch on said date, and when they will come.

"and the helplines are actually quite informative"

I still get a different answer to the same question each time I phone.
