Hi Guys
I named my son after me. First name, middle name and last name exactly the same.

I wanted to know if anyone here has done this? Will I not get any problems in the South african home affairs when I go do a birth certificate for him?

Since he will be a "Junior", will the automatically add that? Or I should put it as his "other name". Also, will there be changes to my name? Such as an addition of Senior?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Why did you give your son the same name as you?

No there will be no problems. Dont add junior or senior or boeta or chommie or china or smalley or...

Just add his names where applicable and your names where applicable.

Since you haven't gone to home affairs yet, give him your first name, and make his second name his mom's dad's name.

You are asking a bunch of IT geeks to name your son.
Epic - please call him Thrall, Second of his Name

So you have decided not to treat your son as an individual?

Give the kid his own name.

Eish, poor kid. Know a few people with the same name as their father and none of them really appreciated it. They have nick names now which take preference... so whats the point?

Thousands of people have identical names - you are different by your ID numbers. No pretentious bullshît like The First, The Second, Junior, Senior or anything else of that stupid nature.

If you are John James Smith, just name him John James Smith.

Putting unnecessary pressure on the little one, well done.

Why all the hate for family names? Its not like the little dude will be called Frederik Okkert Karoolus?

Also there is no need for confusion, just call him be one of his other names.

Junior, or II, is a naming convention not part of the child's legal name.

FWIW "Junior" falls away once you're dead ;)

I agree that you can make a the first name the same (silly as that might be) and then another family name for the middlename.

BTW, there are hundreds of my fellow SA men who have the exact same first name and surname combination as me (both are very common) - it doesn't matter as the ID numbers are unique.

If you need to check validity of SA ID numbers with SA ID Checker website, and if you have an Android you can use the SA ID Validator app

Sounds like something I would do to protect myself from debtors.

"What do you mean Ninja'd Kennedy Daniels owes R50 000? He's only 3 months old!"
