There's this guy with the surname Scott and his parents named him... Scot... wtf. Rofl at "Summer Holiday", poor child. Did all the boys go on her?

OP, what's wrong with you?

That's quite bad, but she should still be relieved she wasn't called Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii or Number 16 Bus Shelter:

OP: As long as you don't have a weird ass name, I'm sure it's fine. Only issue will be receiving mail when he's older (if mail is still around by then). It's difficult when you both have the same initials and surname.

Or "The bogs in KFC in Langley Village"...

Mr and Mrs Cart did not see a problem in naming their son Orson.

Every first born son in my family gets the the family name. I was the fourth and my son is the fifth to carry the name. I am glad and proud to be able to continue with such a tradition.

Sounds sexist that the son is the be all and end all of the family tree and MUST continue the family name and surname.

This:

I think you've got to be a bit full of yourself to think that someone else wants the exact same name as you tbh...

You might be a bit full of yourself if you think that someone else wants a name you chose for them?

Ag jissis. Sexist. Seriously? The son does not HAVE to do it. He can name his kid anything. This is just how it is in our family. I have the names of the first born men on my father's side. My son will also have it. His son does not have to if he does not want to.

Neither of my names are family names. It is the one thing I am most thankful for toward my parents.

For the love of spaghetti monsters, don't give him your names.

For interest's sake, the people with my exact same name in south africa: 1963, 1971 (me), 1974

Taking the most common Afrikaans male names I can think of, there is a total of 223 Johannes Jacobus Van Der Merwes.

In my best friend's family, all the males' first name starts with a W and second name with a J, as decreed by his grandfather. So him, his uncles, and cousins, all have the initials W J [Surname], irrespective of whether you carry the family name.
