how do you password protect a folder in XP. i want to stop anyone from accessing my "my music" folder at home, they can have access to all other files except that one.
or which software can i download to help.

i don't want to setup diff users or anything like that

microsoft private folder, not supported by microsoft anymore but still available.

If he doesnt want diffrent users then surely that wont work because any user will have the password. You can use truecrypt to encrypt and passwords protect a folder or a drive volum. http://www.truecrypt.org/

Depends how your technical skills are.
You can go the "manuel" route, it involves editing some hidden files.
or just download software. Google. Try Folderlock.
You can also just hide and encrypt the folder.

www.winability.com

they have many products that protect and/or hide folders. some of them include "FolderGuard" and "MySecretFolder". there is another one called Hide Folders XP, but i think that's some other company.

Hiding folders

or if you dont wont to use software than you can use this folder hiding trick:

1.Create a new folder or select an existing one
2.Clear the name, hold down alt and type 0160
3.click away and you should notice it has no name
4.Then right clik – properties – change icon
5.Scroll across and you should find a few blank spaces, select one of these and click apply.

Wala pretty cool hey? Now “Show hidden files/folders” wont work!
Just remember where you put it :P

assuming your the only admin on ur pc, why dont you just remove the security permissions on the folder besides ur own and set explict permissions instead of inherited permissions.
