If your ring is an average joe, don't expect fantastic offers.

If its one that's big (>1ct) and colour and clarity is amazing and a brilliant cut, then you'd get some pretty price for it, especially since the rand has weakened now. They take the dollar rate to make evaluations btw ...
... It is almost a carat....

Good luck selling this at a decent price. Jewellers rip you off all the time. The best bet when u r next in Dubai (that's if u travel) u will get top dollar for the gold and the stone.
Perhaps i can send it to my friend in dubai to sell. Mmmm thinking....

You'll only get your price if you sell it yourself.
Maybe try selling it on bidorbuy, take nice pics of ring and digitally watermark the certificates.

Yeah, was thinking of bid or buy. The logistics of avoiding scammers, baffles me.

The guy who buys his fiancé a second hand engagement ring, that was used in another engagement, is looking to end the marriage before it even starts. I would NEVER do that...might as well ask your fiancé to also wear a second hand wedding dress. Ask her if she would and see what happens...

Sell the diamond separately. The metal can be melted down and sold at current value.

I recently sold one of my mothers old rings (inherited - it was waaaaaay to bling for me ;-)

Had it valued for R16k but if sold for materials would have gotten only R10 for it.

The jeweler offered to put it on display - took a few months but sold and i got R15k for it.

If you are in CT i can recommend a good jeweler.

Diamonds and the engagement ring (and wedding rings) is a huge cultural scam. Men never bought engagement diamond rings for their women to ask for their hand in marriage before the 1900s. Couples simply agreed to get married and that was it. But De Beers instilled a culture of diamond rings through a massive advertising campaign in the early 20th century (i.e. the 1920s and 1930s). People were slowly and subsequently brainwashed into believing that before getting married, a man needs to show he loves his woman by buying a diamond ring.

Diamonds are in actual fact worthless. There is a huge vault whereby diamonds are stored so as to keep them out of the market so that their worth can be high. De Beers is scamming all of us. We men have to part with 2 or 3 months’ worth of our salary to show women that they are special.

quite right!

never bought another diamond ring after that one!

money making scam delux!

Valuation is only good for what an insurance will pay you should the ring be lost or stolen.

Rings are similar to art. Apart from the raw materials it's only worth what the purchaser will pay for it. So unless your ring is stolen or lost, you will likely only get the value of the raw materials used. Like the diamond's value and the gold's value. This will be no where near what you paid for the ring ;)

i.e. Leave it in your unlocked car? :whistling:
