I am sure the rules are strict because of people like meIf worn, you have to insure it under 'all risks' which costs a pretty penny. Else under household contents cover it needs to be in an insurer approved safe if over a certain value** and have an up to date valuation certificate.
** for Santam the value is 25k, for Outsurance I think it's 75k (speaking under correction).
