Dear all,
I run a small shops sells beverage, recently, I'd like to add a wi-fi hot spot for my customer, I googled lots of paid solution, which is too much cost for me as it isn't a profit driven service.

I also checked the forum, some friends also got similar situation I'm facing,
A guy referred a restaurant owner to have a look at a B&B owner's post... which isn't helpful at all, the B&B owner just like to enable the wifi without session control.

some one offered a solution (a I.T guy from a hotel, who also recommend the solution to his management) , the PublicIP(http://www.publicIP.net) .... I googled a lot, and it is not called PublicIP, it's ZoneCD, and the free version of it(website was http://www.publicIP.net), and commercial version was at www.publicIP.com ...

this project discounted around Sep, 2009,

if there any solution for me to share my Wi-Fi connection, but with a session control, which I can give out the user name and password, for maybe half hour or one hour.

thanks a lot.

You can try looking at www.mikrotik.com if you willing to spend some money on a router. I would suggest the rb750 for less than R500 keeping it independent from your network. Try browsing the forums as their products are mostly used in Internet Cafe's.

Dunno much about these things, but I just saw this product that might be what you're looking for on the Esquire specials page (http://www.esquire.co.za/specials/2012_01_25WLS.html)

Intellinet GuestGate HotSpot Gateway: http://shop.esquire.co.za/ProductDescription.aspx?id=803996

Product page: http://www.intellinet-network.com/en-US/products/5316-guestgate-hotspot-gateway

Overview:

Provide guests with Internet access while keeping your network secure.

Now you can easily accommodate guests to your offices, such as consultants, auditors, professional service providers, manufacturing representatives, and clients, without burdening your IT administrator with last minute LAN configuration requests. Simply install the INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS GuestGate Internet Access device, and your visitors will be able to access the Internet from your conference room, offices, or other accommodations in your facility, without compromising the security of your network.

Easy Access, Installation & Configuration
Using GuestGate there is no need for your visitors to reconfigure their notebook computers in order to access the Internet through your network – simply log in using the company-provided username & password. Nor is it necessary for your IP administrator to reconfigure your network every time you have a guest visit. GuestGate automatically adjusts to the guest computer’s TCP/IP settings, making it a snap for your IT organization to accommodate your guests who need to access the Internet. And it also detects the host network’s setting, and in most cases automatically configures the Internet access!

Protect Your Private Network
Using the INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS proprietary HNP Technology, GuestGate prevents clients from seeing the host network, while at the same time allowing them access to the public Internet. Special privileges, such as access to specific servers and printers, can easily be configured as needed, while still providing host network protection. And for added protection to your network, you can choose to assign your visitor a password and require it for access to the Internet. You can even limit the amount of bandwidth allowed to the guests, further ensuring that your network is not impacted by your additional users.

Protect Your Guests’ Computers
Your visitors can rest assured that the security of their notebook computers will not be compromised by other strangers, i.e., other guests you may have visiting and accessing your network at the same time. This innovative device protects your GuestGate users by assigning different random networks to each client. This unique client isolation capability is provided through Layer 3 LAN technology (patent pending), and ensures that no connection between guest computers can be established (even if they are connected via a wireless access point). And as if that were not enough, GuestGate also protects the guest computers from unauthorized access through the Internet, helping to prevent their computer from being attacked while connected to the Internet through your LAN.

Provide a Professional Environment
GuestGate allows you to provide your own company welcome screen for your guests. Use the welcome screen feature to define terms and conditions, requiring your guests to agree before they proceed. This feature is optional and can be completely deactivated if preferred.

Lifetime Warranty
Strict manufacturing standards assure the highest quality in all INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS products. All items carry a full Lifetime Warranty, the strongest quality commitment anyone can make.

I think you should buy a Wi-Fi ADSL Modem, then buy an uncapped account (1, 4, 10mbps) Then set wifi on your modem. Then put a password, change password every month, and walla you have a wi-fi hotspot

The OP says he wants to limit to 30 minutes to 1 hour. Your solution is not going to do that.
