How to spot a card skimmer at a restaurant

No, its Africa.

Was in the US recently, no chip cards, and clients freely hand their cards over to waiters to take to the till.

Clearly cloning is not a major issue there.

It is a major issue and that is why they moving to EMV (cards with a chip).

Ok, I didn't trust their system so ended up paying cash at all restaurants.

Mostly they can't process chip cards (with the magstrip protected).

Not really even sure what I'm supposed to be looking at here.
With more than one type of card machine this is kinda pointless.
Wherever possible I use Snapscan.
I ain't carrying a ruler in my pocket to measure card machine slots if that's what the article is suggesting.

Just ask for the original machine when they bring it. Tell them you need to compare.

Just ask the restaurant for their Paypal address and transfer to that.
