I took a video (*.mov) with my Nikon Coolpix P520 of a Gymogene building a nest in a tree. It was an opportunist video and I had no time to haul out my tripod to stabilise the camera.

The result is that there was some movement of the hand-held camera, and I would like to try to stabilise the video that was recorded to improve the video.

The *.mov file is 226 MB in size.

Can folk here recommend a video stabilisation program that will help to stabilise *.MOV video files that is freely available for download for a once-off project?

Don't know about Windows but iMovie has stabilisation - know anyone with a Mac?

I have used "deshaker" with great success. It is a bit of a pain to get it to work well (installing ffmpeg is a must to allow Virtualdub to import most formats), but I am so satisfied with the result that I would say it is worth the effort.

The actual page for deshaker: http://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm

Thanks .. I'll have a look at that

YouTube also has this facility. You lose some of the quality.

I would guess I would need to upload the 226 MB to the youtube facility ... not looking forward to that on my 4Mbps, capped at 20GB, connection. But thanks, I'll give it a try
