I would like to know what the 1yr, 3yr and 5yr success rate is for businesses starting out with R1000 capital. I'd imagine not great. The truth is that you need money to make money.

I know a non-IT company which started with nothing other than a telephone and garage, brothers, not even that long ago. Today they are quite well known in SA and the UK. 5 (or more) years ago they purchased a massive property which they had developed along the N2.

The secret is actually getting up and doing it. The rest is attention to detail.

It's actually more about that little thing called thorough market research . Slot it in after "getting up", just before "doing it" :p

This and spotting that gap in the market (which is the hard thing to do).

I met a guy who moved in next to one of my clients in an industrial park. He's been running for 3 years now (on his own) - said he's earning money for the first time. They take second hand bicycles and revamp them to give it a vintage look. He supplies resorts, guesthouses, shops etc. Beautiful work I must say

I started my first business with less than R1000.

Straight out of Uni I bought a kit of facepaints and hit up festivals and events which led to kid's parties and corporate events.

I worked hard on the designs and bought professional quality paint which in combination with my own skills made all the difference.

Once one face was painted it served as a advert and from their lines formed and bookings followed.

I made decent money for that time in my life and it was loads of fun.

Read quite a few self made billionaire bios and intense pro activity and especially perseverance is the key.
Luck and opportunity are the by products.

But it takes a special kind of person to have these qualities in dollops.

Keep calm and carry on.

Depends on the business. Some can be started with R10. Failure or success is not related to how much you have but to how much you persevere.
