How to stop government from snooping on your torrents

Is there a reason why the torrent clients don't incorporate strong and proper encryption?
I might be wrong but possibly due to the US having export restrictions on encryption, and also potentially using standard cryptos that might have NSA backdoors in them.

When I download code from overseas sites, often I am asked to fill out an export control declaration whenever 3DES, AES, or RSA appears in the code or its libraries.

Why even bother with torrents? I use filesharing services.

WAY faster, convenient, no shaping worries, nothing...

Usenet is for people with slow internet or too much hard disk space.

Cloud torrenting is faster (time it takes to choose your media and then watch it) than anything else on the market. You basically choose what you watch, and in 99% of instances, you can start instantly watching your media from a live stream to your HD tv. No need to waste disk space or time while waiting for the download to download.

Usenet is cool legacy computing... but its pointless to me.

Maybe slow by first world standards.

Ghoti are you referring to Popcorn Time?

Are there others like it?

I use put.io as it has an XBMC plugin so I can watch it through my main tv media center. It also automatically adds all my favorite series so everything is pretty much automated.

And then your internet connection goes down and you have no entertainment for a day/week/more...

I run an ISP... I am almost never internetless.... For those super rare times that my internet does go down... I have satellite for backup, or I can then fall back onto legacy systems and download at work what I want to watch later. My power goes down more than my internet does.

When you get a better internet connection you will see the way you use the internet will change. Its kinda pointless downloading most stuff and wasting hard disk space... as you can kinda just watch the torrent any time you want. The internet is my hard disk. Its like downloading all the videos on youtube... its pointless. You can watch them anytime you want to.

/facepalm

I guess that's why it's such a booming "industry".

/return facepalm

Yeah, its been "booming" since the 70`s. As I said, for people with bad internet connections (or shared internet connections, or too much hard disk space, or just because its what you know) its perfect. For people like me, its too slow. If you prefer the slow legacy way of doing things and it works for you, then go for it. For those of us that want to choose something to watch and watch it near instantly... there are better options.

The majority of the country do not have unlimited backup connections to the web but I have noticed that most of the news providers I go to (and torrent sites I used to frequent) people were mostly from first world countries.

Think they have not gotten the memo yet?

I am sorry but ghoti does have a point.

Yea but it's one of those "in a perfect world" points that do not really help the rest of the world.

I know some people are lucky enough to have fast, stable and reliable connections in South Africa but the rest of us?

Yes, I know but I consider what he says because 90% of what I download, is practically wasted disk space once I've watched it.
I don't use usenet, because of bad stuff I've seen floating around there that I do not want to remotely even have the risk of being implicated in it. Torrents, have always been a far safer bet for me.

When the usenet discussions started on this forum in '09 I did try it, and as ghoti says, the experience was slow, but when I saw stuff there, I canned it immediately.
I have known about fake torrents for a long time. Usually a bit of knowledge helps. As for checking out peers, I do this routinely. Its easy to see who shouldn't be there.
A bit of knowledge about what you're trying to download, goes a long way.

Slow? My NZBs always come down at full speed and my guess is that others have the same experience. I'm not sure where you are drawing your conclusions from but it's inaccurate. In fact, my NZBs always come down faster than my torrents. There is also nothing slow in the way it works. You get a file and add it to your usenet app and it downloads. Same with torrents.

Pretty sure he is using popcorn (it's awesome, stream straight from torrents).

More info?
The news providers I am using now don't even list porn...

My friends in Sweden and most places with first world connections have also noticed their media habits changing.

You are trying so hard to make a point you are missing what I am saying. I never once mentioned the bandwidth speed of the download. I said specifically, the time it takes for me to choose something to watch, to the time I can watch it.

If I use put.io, I find a movie I want to watch. I add it to put.io. I can watch it INSTANTLY. 99% of the time there is no wait. Its instantly available to me. With your system. You have to download, and then you can watch it. If its a 4gb HD file you are going to wait an hour or more before you can watch your media. With this system, I add the torrent and I can stream it instantly. No having to wait for it to download. While you are still downloading your media off usenet, Im already watching mine.

The added bonus of this is I dont have to waste hard drives filling up with old media. If I want an entire season for a series. I add it, and within a minute I can watch any episode I want. When I am done with it, I delete the torrent, if/when I want it again I quickly add it.. and its all available again. Its kinda pointless to download and have it wasting space on your hard disk.
