How to test if a second hand iPad is ok?

So if I wanted to buy an iPad from OLX or something - assuming I meet the seller somewhere with the cash, is there any way, apart from turning the thing on, checking out a few apps, that I can make sure it's in a good, working condition?
Also, would they be able to, after the fact, do anything to disable the iPad?

Want to get one second hand, just wanted to be aware of any potential pitfalls.

Lots of stolen and subsequently disabled iPads/iPhones out there. Make sure the device is working and that the device has been removed from the original owners account.

Ah, so get the serial number beforehand and do checks. Then also make sure the serial number provided matches the one I'm buying.
Many thanks

Basically you want to full reset it there and then in front of them.

Preferably after signing out of all accounts first.

Most important part. Otherwise things like find my iPhone/iPad can still be active.

Just looking for a secondhand iPad - tried the Mybb classifieds. not much, tried carbonite, also not too much luck. Where else?

Bought my first iPad 2 from gumtree for R2500, bought iPad 3 from bidorbuy, both times they where out of town purchases , lucky for me I didn't get nailed.

Prior to iOS7 (I think) it wasn't as much of a risk - afaik you could still wipe a device.

Budget is somewhere there, but I see you're in CT? I'm in JHB.
As an aside, you find that 16GB is enough?

Came across this deal/mistake by this Cash Converters Store.

A new WiFi 64gb iPad Air 2 retails for R9k

This store is selling a boxed one that looks in good condition for R5500

That's a fair bit under valued & way cheaper than other 2nd iPad Air 2 models; vast majority are 16gb as well.

I think as the Air 2 box says just "iPad Air" they are pricing it like an Air 1.

But we can clearly see the TouchID

Alas I don't have R5500 to blow on an iPad at present someone else can score

I seem to recall every December there are some nice deals on apple products and especially iPads.

But Ja R5500 for iPad air 2 is bargain, pity I'm in slummies.
