Existing insurer = Outsurance
... call them and say that you want to end your insurance cover from, for e.g., midnight on {date} ... and tell your chosen new insurer to effect the new cover from midnight on {the same date as above} . Sure, you overlap one day at worst, but you won't have a gap in your cover.
As far as I know I think you will lose the Outsurance "no-claims-bonus" that they pay out once per year.

Get a Broker and they will advise and handle the move and the new package for you, with alternatives and improvement proposals.

1. Phone Outsurance.
2. Tell them to cancel policy on x date at midnight.
3. Phone new insurance.
4. Tell them to start policy on x date at midnight.
5. Profit :D

One of the purposes of insurance is to regularise your cash flows, you pay a regular premium and in exchange the insurance company pays out any losses (that fall within the scope of the policy).

In other words, what you have paid to outsurance was cover for losses occuring in that period. You have no right to any premium back. Also you have not been with outsurance long enough to qualify for any cash back bonus, and this too will be lost.

As atomcrusher said, all you have to do is call your current insurer and request they cancel your policy on a certain date at midnight, and make sure your broker/new insurer have your new policy incept immediately thereafter.

And no you won't be getting anything back....and you probably would never have gotten anything anyway.

Now save all the money you pissed away towards the Outbonus nonsense every month and just put it in your pocket instead.

Cancelling an Outsurance policy is a tedious exercise - the salespeople try there hardest to keep you with them.

They have this magical ability to make premium and excess discounts appear out of thin air - do not fall for these tricks.
