How websites pay to get past your adblock

Hmm, interesting.

But surely you can create your own list and block ads when you see them?

This isn't some kind of secret is it? They aren't even trying to hide it on their site, been happening since at least the start of last year.

My main gripes with ads are obtrusiveness & tracking, something they've addressed. I'm fine with the ads they show, almost always discrete and they don't leave any sticky residue. I think it's something that should be encouraged to be honest.

Apparently they're not paying enough, because mine blocks everything like a boss. But then I'm also not an idiot and have turned off the "allow some ads" option.

ABP is the last line of defence against the Zerg-rush of spam AKA the modern internet.

So did I, recently. Crazy. Pure greed.

You do know that without ads you'd pay to use websites like MyBB right?

Wrong again as usual. Adblock Plus works perfectly fine and you don't need to pay for anything.

Because other people view the ads. Idiot.

If everyone used ad block, sites would be pay walled.

So, who would then pay for the operational cost of sites? Or should the owners absorb that cost themselves?

Shame. I count on good Samaritans like yourself to view the ads. You might even want to click on a few. Not me.

Just untick the "allow some non-obtrusive ads" box in the AdBlock options.

My eyes light up when I see that someone clicked on an ad on my site. Truth is that people make money with ads. MyBroadband for instance need to pay salaries.

So be a nice person and allow for ads on the sites that you would like to support.

Fully aware of that. Don't care. moron.

Other people can view them. What I do has no effect on them. Either Adblock conveniently takes care of the ads or I mentally screen them out. I never even see banner ads anymore anyways, it's like your mind gets trained to block out things. I got it mainly for the annoying pop-ups and flash/java ones. Making websites load faster is just a nice side effect.

There has been an internet for many years, the sites were always free and they never had so many annoying ads. So please spare me the BS about costs. A few here and there are fine, but when I open MyBB's front page and see 15+ ads blocked it gets a bit ridiculous. Asking me to watch it is like asking me to read all those lost lover/erectile disfunction sangoma ads that get plastered all over the street lights, or the crap they throw in my mailbox.

You said it good. I don't click on online adds. Never have, never will. The few times I land on a site without a add blocker active, I am shocked. The amount of adds are ridiculous.
