Whoa! Dude, you don't need to spend too much...

Prices of laptops have come down bigtime in the past 2 years, so relax!

I bought my laptop just about a year ago, blew 1100 pounds on it, and check the specs I got:

17" Widescreen crystal whatever shiny vewwy pwitty
2ghz Pentium M Centrino (like equivalent of a 3ghz apparently)
1gig RAM
160gig HDD
GeForce 6800 Go 256mb (sweetness)

Yep, Laptops are gonna replace desktops pretty soon.

What would you say is the best deal at the moment and where can I buy it in Cape Town?

I've got a Fujitsu Siemens, they seem to be quite popular in SA now. I'd recommend them for pretty good value.

I'm not really sure what the best deal is at the moment, I haven't been keeping up to date to be honest, they seem to be getting cheaper every month tho.

Check out the dell XPS M170. I see they got some good prices on them at the moment, and they come with 7800 graphics cards.

It all depends how 'hardcore' you want to go ;)

Yeah problem is that laptop prices are wildly inflated here - I bet he can get this system at around R15-16k.

Ap0c; Can you get XPS systems here?

With a bit of effort, you can get the XPS M170 in SA. I have 3 friends who have them. Very nice machines - check the reviews out. Cnet etc, have them rated as some of the best laptops available.

how can they be selling a laptop that isn't on LG SA's own site yet?

and those specs for that price?

If they slapped on a 17 inch screen and a decent GFX Card then it would be interesting. Fujitsu Siemens has one being sold @ Makro, similar specs but with a Nvidia Go 6800 GFX card for about 17/18k IIRC, that's with a 17inch screen.
