Hp G61 sound not working on 9.10

I need help again. Cant get the sound to work. Searched google the whole weekend. Found one similar case but I don't understand what they do.

Anybody have had a similar problem?? Any suggestions?

Post the output of lspci. Or if you know the exact chipset your laptop uses, that would be great too.

Hehe, sorry. It all good. Just open up the terminal (under Applications --> Accessories) and then type in:

lspci

Thats not Ispci, its lspci (with lowercase L).

It will spit out a bunch of text, post that text for us so we can see if the sound card is detected and what chipset it uses. The text will look something like this:

This is your sound card, so it is being detected and it's a pretty generic sound device too. I don't see any reason why Ubuntu wouldn't pick this up. Check two things:

1. Firstly make sure that your volume is turned up and not muted (at the speaker icon in the notification area) - sounds silly, but why not start with the most obvious.
2. Go into System --> Preferences --> Sound and select the hardware tab - check if there is a device there. Should look something like my screenshot (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=4252).

If there is a device listed there, then check the laptop's volume controls.

Let me know what you find.
