I have a Merlin U740 datacard.

Location (home): Centurion (close to CBD).
Location (office): Centurion (a few blocks further from CBD, but still pretty central)

According to the coverage map I should be smack bang in the middle of HSDPA territory, yet, I've never had an HSDPA connection (I know because the LED has never been Magenta, it's always either Blue (3G) or Green (GPRS).

What to do?

As far as i know there is a firmware problem with the merlin.
Do a few speed tests you will know if you have HSDPA.

Ran the test three times.

Max download speed = 857
Max upload speed = 57

Ave download speed = 641
Ave upload speed = 55

So from what you're describing that looks ok. I guess it's just the LED colour that's a bit off then!

yup, That is HSDPA there is a firmware issue that causes the LED to go funny. very few people see the magenta. It should be fixed by the firmware upgrade.

enjoy your HSDPA but watch your account.:D
