HSDPA on MAC OS X

There have been huge issues for us poor 'ol mac users getting HSDPA to work on MAC's. Eventually the walk-in call centre was able to give me a version of VMC that worked with the OPTION HSDPA card. Of course, I ran to my nearest Vodashop, and they gave me a HUAWEI E620 card, which is not supported.

I'm know someone that is willing to swap their Novalogic card with my HUAWEI, which I'm going to take as it's more supported and the Linux guys seemed to get it working which is a good thing for us MAC users as MAC OS X 10.4.6 that is based on Darwin UNIX.

I see some of the Linux guru's in the forums manage to get the Novalogic cards working on on their machines.

Do you folks out there have any advice for me. Vodacom's data call centre seems to recommend that us Mac users rather just disappear that try be helped.

Please advise,

Should I:

* Beg Vodacom to swap my HSDPA card out for the old 3G ones that work?
* Wait for Vodacom to release the software supporting my card type?
* Try and cancel my 24 month contract?
* Wait for Nova to release a version of Launch2Net that supports my card?
* Try one of the Linux guru's hacks

Hey SparkySpider,

I would do it in the following order:

* Beg vodacom to give you a Novatel or Option :)
* Bug the living day lights out of vodacom3g
* Try one of the Linux hacks (you are on Linux afterall :) )
* Bug the living day lights out of vodacom3g
* See if they release updated software
* Bug the living day lights out of vodacom3g

lol - Ok - I havn't seen the new cards and havn't had a moment to get it into my notebook to see how/where/what it does under Linux. If you could get a Novatel card I am sure that MacOS would have picked it up, but then again - you would have the software so no hacks needed. I am sure that vodacom3g can get you either an eta of the software or a way to swap it to Option or Novatel, afterall - that is what you wanted and told them from the start :)

Laterz !

OK, no bugging required.....

This is where we are with HSDPA on MAC OSX:

- Option Nozomi - Supported by VMC 2.04.05

- Novatel U740 - Manufacturer supplied script

- Huawei U620 - Manufacturer supplied script

The above scripts are still i test, but if you would like to help test, drop me a PM with your e-mail addy and I'll forward to you.

If all else fails, I'm sure we can arrange a swap-out. The biggest challenge will be availability of the Option cards, so let's try the script first.

Success in th END

Some really nifty guys at Vodacom 155 call centre managed to get a courier out to me to collect my Huawei and swap it for an OPTION. Still have the old software that I got from the walk-in call centre in Canal Walk.

So far, this is my experience with the OPTION HSDPA card back.

* Connect first time, everytime.
* No lag
* No time-outs
* No line-drops
* 230% better reception / connection over standard 3G
* Very fast response times.

Well, at least that's from Glencairn (Simonstown) - the middle on nowhere.

Tazz_Tux and Vocacom3G, thank you so much for your offered support. I have a friend wanting HSDPA for his mac too. I'll give him the advice.
