HSDPA - show of hands

I'm away on a business trip at the moment so I can't do the speed test at home (Hillcrest outside Durban) but over the last weekend I was getting 50 - 100 kbps at best. I'm right on the edge of the signal so I don't get more than 1 or 2 bars but in April and beginning May I was seeing nearly 400 kbps.

My wife tried connecting last night but it would lose the connection after 30 seconds and not reconnect.

My 3G seemd faster than HSDPA.

Can we please get some throughput feedback from the guys in the Pretoria and Durban areas.

What is your throughput like this morning?

I'm specifically after how it performs TODAY. We made some changes last night and would like to get your feedback.

Tx!

Upload Speed: 313 kbps (39.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Speakeasy (New York):
Download Speed: 296 kbps (37 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 46 kbps (5.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Telkom:
Download time: 7.078 seconds

It seems whatever you guys are doing, it's helping a bit. My connection also seems to be a lot more stable today.

V3G,

Early this morning was much better in central Pretoria. Download speeds about 1300kbps and upload about 250kbps. As I reported previously has been exceptionally slow (around GPRS levels) for most of June. Can't check at the moment because I'm at work on Digicrap.

Well, throw the connection stability out of the window :p
I lost my downlink and then VMC crashed along with MSN Messenger (don't know if it is linked).
Well, at least there is improvement, well done v3g :D

Been getting these cr@ppy speeds for most of the week, never mind the error 619 problem on 3G at some of the places that I have tried to use the service - supposed to have been fixed on Monday afternoon???

Anyway, the speeds are terrible, scary when then upload speed is almost faster than the download... I'll keep trying

Hmm, just a few moments of 800kbp/s glory this morning, and now it is back to much slower speeds, granted, they are faster than what I had, but for HSDPA they are utterly slow.

Telkom:
Download time: 34.907 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 116.9 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 14.3 (kiloBytes/second)

Vodacom:
Download Speed: 180 kbps (22.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 298 kbps (37.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Something is definately amiss with 3G in the Cape...

Last Result:
Download Speed: 9 kbps (1.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 173 kbps (21.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

This is with an HSDPA card, with 3bars of signal. There are no funny weather conditions in the Cape at present, so cannot understand why the throughput is so bad - anyone else having these sh!tty throughput issues?

I also in some places cannot connect on 3G without an error 619 - apparently Siemens are sorting this problem out - well they were supposed to have fixed it already - when last I checked, I was Vodacom's customer, they are Siemens' customer, and this passing the buck is a load of nonsense, ultimately someone needs to take responsibility for these problems, and it must be Vodacom!

You guys should be putting the pressure on Siemens, not me to sort their stuff out, for over a week now, I have had to use GPRS in certain parts of the network, GPRS works fine (as long as it's for e-mail only), but seeing as though I am paying the non-reduced tariff for 3G, and there is no EDGE, I'm the one losing out (and others like me)

Most dissappointed:mad:

Better, but not much ...

Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg

2-3 bars Signal (ususal)

Vodacom Speed Test:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 317 kbps (39.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 57 kbps (7.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

This would not even run last night. But still way off the usual 5-600 Kbps I was getting on average.

Something still amiss :(

I have exacly the same issue as You, Check my post (HSDPA SPEEDS), I have had it for the past few weeks. I have been in contact with V3G and he has been very helpfull in trying to sort it out. I Undersand they did some software upgrades lastnight and I will see how it goes. I hope they get it working soon as i have resorted to a dial up modem as a emergancy route. :(

gboy, your area is only scheduled for tonight, last night was done in the Pta and Dbn area.

They're also busy upgrading the transmission in your area to fix your throughput issues. It'll probably take some time though, courtesy of our friendly, local telco...

Bit late , but tonight the speed is definitely better [from the sub 100kbps].

Last Result:
Download Speed: 349 kbps (43.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 40 kbps (5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Although, not sure whether it's slow HSDPA speeds or fast 3G speed. My guess it's slow HSDPA ...

I think we're moving from 'completely stuffed' (<100Kb/s) to 'mostly slow' (<800Kb/s), so at least (I hope) we've nicked one big problem.

Now the next one....

Btw, the rest of the country should get the same upgrade tonight, barring any complications.

Will give feedback tomorrow morning as soon as I know how it went.
