V27.2 of the Novatel U740 is currently on test.

Will advise as soon as it becomes available.

Steady as she goes!

Been connected through the night, no disconnects. Seems to have been a passing problem in my case!

Have moved my speed report to the HSDPA speeds thread.:D

Can't say the same for me here in the Cape. Problems again in Milnerton today, after yesterday's bliss today we are back with the same issue as during the week...

Last Result:
Download Speed: 60 kbps (7.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 173 kbps (21.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Last Result:
Download Speed: 370 kbps (46.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 125 kbps (15.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Will keep trying - AGAIN...

Getting frustrating now - surely there must be a problem - even though there isn't one according to Vodacom/Siemens?

On the plus side I suppose, no disconnects - apart from me trying to get the connection going again, and again...

Hmmm...while it is cheeky for someone identifying themself as a representative of Vodacom's competition [well maybe not mobile data competition], to be posting misinformation here, I am monitoring that to make sure that it doesn't get out of hand, I would however prefer that we stick to the facts without getting personal :).

Yeah, sorry ic, had a really bad day with datacards, and ended up swapping 2 of my "treasured" option cards used in-store to clients who were struggling with the novatels, so this hit a sore spot...

V3G, please ask them to bring back the option cards, I know they listen to you????

Dunno where you've been living dude, but maybe when Cellc finally launch HSDPA (that is after they've built a decent voice network) you may be able to actually quote facts around here.

Firstly, the option card is well known to have a MUCH better signal strength than any other card. Do you even know that different firmware versions and software versions are available for the different cards? Do you know that if you insert a different make card you must re-create a profile???

Secondly, the novatel is fraught with problems, from signal strenth, to compatibility issues, to incorrect PID modem settings being supplied to SA. This is spoken about alot in this forum, and as a retailer of all 3, I can tell you in no uncertain terms, the novatel is an absolute nightmare, and VERY weak in the signal strength department.

From someone who doesn't even know whether motorola or alcatel builds their towers, I would stick to the Cellc threads if I were you!!!!:) :) :) At least until your network start specialising in the HSDPA product offering. Until then, you are equal only to a member of the peanut gallery owned by the competition!:)

Ok people take a break. 3G4me is sounds like you are having a bad day or going through menopause, i don't know but people can monitor me all day if u want i can give you a full set of details even DNA records if you want. but all you people here on this forum are a different breed of human so i give up anyways enjoy y'all's life

With such a short supply of cards and such a huge demand, we're taking whatever we can get our hands on :)

I'm sure we'll get the firmware on the Novatel's sorted. You might remember a similar situation a year ago when we first launched 3G with Option and then also brought Novatel in. For a while we battled with the Novatel's but it got sorted.

Yeah my old novatel rocked when you guys got the firmware and drivers right. After that it performed better than the Option card i had. At the moment though the Heuwai cards seem the best.

More a case of the manufacturer (Novatel, in this case) getting the firmware and drivers right.

As soon as it's available I'll post.

We must not get all our hopes pinned on the next firmware release. While I'm sure the issues with Novatel will be resolved with a firmware upgrade, I've not seen (did ask, though) the release notes yet.

Love to send a notification out via SMS, but then we're the evil spammers again....

v3g,

I have noticed from the posts that some people have the higher upload speeds.
I don't seem to get any more than 64k and I was wondering if some towers still need to be upgraded etc etc?

In Edgemead/Monte Vista/Bothasig area.

Thanks
Pp

Edit: Really bad signal today. No disconnects but takes a while for pages to load. When they load, they do at >700kbps but there is a slight delay.

Not the towers, rather your user profile. Everyone should have been changed to 384 in the upload, but some might have slipped.

PM me your 3G number and I'll have it checked out.
